Ronald James McLean
April 19, 1934 – May 3, 2010
Ronald McLean passed away peacefully at Brampton Civic Hospital, on May 3, 2010, with his wife, Barbara (nee Wilson) and his children at his side, after battling lung disease (COPD). Ron loved life and spread that love around all of the people he encountered in his 76 years. To say that his sense of humour was infectious would be an understatement; his basic philosophy of life was to make someone laugh every single day. From Parkdale Collegiate to Toronto Teachers’ College, an Etobicoke principal for 25 years and a bartender for even longer, Ron touched the lives of an incredible number of people. He would walk into any room and fill it with his laid-back personality. Ron will be dearly missed and thought of daily by his wife, Barbara, and his children, Kevin (Rasa), Derek (Lisa), and Michelle (Angelo). As their “Pops”, he will also be missed by his grandchildren, Kyara, Maddy, Makana, Sierra, Jack, Saulius and Aaron. His brother, Richard D. McLean, QC of Toronto (Agnes), brother-in-law Ted Wilson, nieces and nephews, Jim, Jeff, Linda and Katherine, will miss Ron greatly.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Monday, May 10 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 o’clock.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the chapel on Tuesday morning, May 11 at 11 o’clock.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sick Children’s Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice.
Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

The image of Ron I will always carry with me is his hosting of the OPSTF General Meetings, especially the “Joke Telling Contest”. Ron’s constant stream of quips and “bon mots” were worthy of any late-night host. His intent was always to entertain and lighten the spirit. In the twenty-plus years of our acquaintance, I never saw Ron without his characteristic big smile and a personal quip for everyone he encountered – especially if he had invented a nickname for you! I admired Ron, both as a principal and as a person, and look to his example in my own life and work: “Take the work seriously, not yourself”.
