We are so very sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Shearer. He was a friend of my parents (Lorne and Jackie KIng) and we chatted many times when he used to come to the Bolton branch of the library to get books. He was a really lovely man that left a wee imprint on our hearts. He will be sorely missed. Kelley and Geoff Potter

A good tough Scot! I was fortunate to spend some time speaking with Mr Shearer at Karen’s wedding which is a nice memory to hold. I remember Geography class when he was teaching us how to fold a map. I am still not very good at it. I will miss the “cheeky banter” we always shared.
Rest in peace.
Phyllis

Absolutely loved Mr. Shearer. Years after high school I was fortunate enough to make his acquaintance again at Adjala Public School’s student plays. His grand daughter Kathryn and my daughter Katherine were friends. Small world. Great man. Wonderful teacher. God Bless.

I learned early on that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in the Shearer family. I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the “Shearer extended family” for over 10 years and from the minute I met Karen and David, I knew that they must have come from very special parents. With their enormous compassion, eagerness to help in any situation, sarcastic sense of humor, witty banter, and their huge hearts, I was not at all surprised when I met the wonderful man they called dad who shared those exact qualities, his spunky stories, his love for life and love for his family. He will be missed beyond words. Thinking of you all xo

It was amazing when Karen entered Richard and our lives and also meeting Alex . Family functions were confirmed always asking, “will Alex be there?”, because we loved seeing him so much. He was charming, smart and fantastic company. He had the best sense of humour. We are shocked and sadden by his passing. We will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace.

Karen, David and Gordon and Shearer family. I just heard about your dad’s passing. I’m so sorry. He was such an amazing guy. So kind and funny and wise. I will never forget working in the garage with him during the kitchen cabinet adventure days. We made a hilarious combination. We got to know each other so well that we would argue over the stupidest things (your dad could be very stubborn at times 🙂 But then your dad would disapear and comedown with a tray of tea and cookies, or some of his homemade beer and of course make one of his legendary wisecracks and we would both laugh and forget what we’d been arguing about. His guidance and patience during that year were so important to me. I was all over the place trying to figure things out in my life and your dads kindness and friendship and sense of humour meant a lot to me. I wish I’d kept in better touch with him than I did but I thought of him often and in fact as recently as last week. I will definitely be there on Saturday for the service to pay my repects and offer my sympathies in person. In the meantime if there is anything I can do to help out in anyway please just let me know.

Gord and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. Many fond memories of your Dad, both as a teacher at Mayfield and many nice chats over the years in town. I’m smiling now 35 years later thinking of drafting class and his daily predictable ” get out your books” with that great accent of his. Nice memories of a good teacher and friend.

Just got a phone call today March 31/14 from Sue Dupuis to let me know of Alex’s death. My heart goes out to his family. He was such a bright light to my husband Marvin and myself. He would always send me a Christmas card that he scribbled a very gracious greeting as I know that writing mustn’t have been easy for him in his later years.
