Peacefully after a brief illness on November 16, 2014 at 91 years of age.
Predeceased by his wife Doreen of 40 years this past July, Alex will be dearly missed by his children Roger (Deirdre), Gail (Mike), Scott (Brenda) and Bev (Peter) and step children Kathy Bradbury and David Frid (Kim), his grandchildren Alexandra, Eric, Hilary, Scott, Kathryn, Jeff, Kent, Sarah, Lauren, Rob, Andrew and his great grandchildren Charlie, Katelyn, Evan and Tegan. Alex was born in Hamilton and was a long-time resident of Aldershot and Fergus Ontario. After serving overseas in WW 2, he started the Forsyth Brothers Ltd. construction business with his brothers Bob and Don (both predeceased) and built many homes in Aldershot. In 1965, following his love of cars, he began a career as a car salesman that lasted until 1982. He then joined the Board of Education for 5 years until his retirement. Alex and Doreen had fond memories of the winters spent in Bradenton, Florida in their later years.
Many thanks to the staff at the Headwaters Health Care Hospital and the Avalon Retirement Lodge both in Orangeville. If desired, donations in his memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
Arrangements by Egan Funeral Home Baxter & Giles Chapel, Orangeville. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

I only knew Alex for a short period of time. I noted he had a really sweet smile, he was very quiet and unassuming, and a perfect gentleman. I was told by other staff members about his love for his dog, and how much his pet was missed. I just wanted to let you know his presence is missed here at “Avalon”, my sincere thoughts are with you at this time. I was amazed when his daughter-in-law showed me a letter he had received from a family he met during the war and had remained friends with for all these years, just an exceptional life your father had, sincerely Jo-Anne Wright, RPN
