Dear Gwen, our sincere condolences on Allan’s passing. As you know, I met Allan in the early 80’s when I used to carpool with him for many years during the Ontario Hydro days. I always enjoyed talking to him. Every time we would bump into him at Zehrs we would end up talking for an hour or more. He was a true gentleman who we will miss him very much.

Gwen,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Alan. I always enjoyed seeing his smile and his face light up when I would greet him at Tim hortons, or seeing him in the grocery store and helping him find the jam!
We will all miss Alan. He will forever shine down on everyone he met.

Uncle Allan was like a grandfather to many of us in our family. Such a fun loving, intelligent, hard working, and wonderful human being to be around. I will miss our tradition of going over for a roast at the cottage. Rest in Peace, Uncle Allan ❤️

Dear Gwen, No matter where we met, it was always a pleasure to talk with Allan. Sometimes it was at a meeting, a store or even downhill skiing into his eighties. Allan greeted everyone with a smile. He was smart and knowledgeable about many topics. He started an investment club with Bob Smith and he ran the old James Bolton School Albert Street reunion. We will miss Allen and so will the Town of Bolton.

Sorry to lose our close friend and long-time System Planner. We had occasionally discussed living beyond the downtown Toronto group and jokingly asked about his ‘farmers’ input.

What a joy and pleasure it was to get to know Alan and Gwen through Meg. Have some great cottage memories to cherish. He was a very kind person whose smile was radiant and contagious. Love to you Gwen and all the family from Cathy in Florenceville New Brunswick.

We were very surprised to hear of Allen’s Passing, Both Ken and I would often meet Allen at the Wishbone waiting for our takeout food, I believe it was just 3 weeks ago. I remember the many Albert Street School reunions that Allen helped organized. It was a great way to get in touch with long lost friends. Seems our lives are so busy unless we have these types of functions we don’t connect. Thanks to people like Allen we did have that opportunity to reconnect. Our condolences to Gwen and family .
Thinking of you,

Al and I commuted together to our work at Ontario Hydro for many years and shared lots of good experiences and conversations. He was a gentleman, a very thorough and neat worker with a good sense of humour. The world will be living with a loss.
My sincere sympathies to Gwen and his family. I pray that his memory will bring you to peace and comfort.

Auntie Gwen,
So sorry to hear of Uncle Allan’s passing. We have so many great memories of wonderful times spent with the two of you at the cottage. Will always remember him as the capable, patient and compassionate man that he was and will picture him walking down the path to the back bay portaging the canoe on his back going home the “back way” to your cottage. Love you and rest in peace Uncle Allan. Xoxo
Jim Pryde
Although not officially my Uncle. Uncle Allan was a Uncle to all of the Gowdy Grandkids and Great Grand Kids!
A few fond memories come to mind when thinking about Allan:
– Having a similar education to Allan, I always enjoyed out time together at the cottage chatting about work. I will always remember him teaching me how to Wire 3-Way switches and helping wiring a ceiling fan or two in your cottage.
– I can’t recount the number of times we all measured ourselves every summer on the Door Fame only to find out that we were still be way behind Allan in the height department (although Ben and Brett got closer than I ever did)!
– I loved talking fishing and trading stories about various places we had been and fish we caught.
I will miss out times getting together at the cottage.
Love,
Jim
