Dear McDonald Family,
I want to express my deepest sympathy and condolences for your loss.
Andy’s life was taken far too soon.
I have worked at 31 Division since 2008. Although I never worked side by side with Andy, I know that he was well respected and well liked. He always had a smile on his face and a positve attitude.
He was a great supporter of the station and a fantastic police officer.
He was proud of his job and treated people with kindness and respect.

Laura Sawa (Bryant)
To Andy’s Family,
It’s hard to believe we’ve lost three classmates in such a short period of time to cancer. All were in their prime and all were well loved by their friends and family. It’s a true tragedy to have lost them all when their lives were just beginning.
I went to school with Andy at Williams Parkway and then North Park and will always remember his down to earth nature, friendly disposition and smile. I remember him being well respected and very close with friends.
I hope his family and friends take comfort in the memories they made with him and the ones being shared by those he impacted throughout his life.
People need to cherish each and every moment they have with those they love. Treat each day as though it’s your last- don’t leave things unsaid or unresolved. Make sure your family and friends know you love them and live each day to the fullest. Carpe Diem
Your family will be in our prayers in the coming months. You all have a long road ahead- don’t hesitate to lean on those around you. My thoughts especially go out to his wife- I can’t imagine how difficult this must be for you. Take heart in knowing you have a huge support system to help you through this.
Take care,
Laura Sawa (nee Bryant)

McDonald Family;
Extending my sincere condolences to all of the family upon the passing of Andy (Ando). A tragic loss at such an early age.
I have known Andy casually for the last few years via his friendship with Paul Chimko when he often attended the Chimko family cottage on Balsam Lake . Being their cottage neighbour, we often exchanged good conversation while enjoying a few cold beverages on the patio. As I also have a brother on the force (Metro Toronto Police) there was always some conversation related to ‘the job’. Andy was the guy with the positive attitude, always smiling and always with his dog. He will be missed.

I went to school with Andy, Williams Pkwy and North Park and I will always remember his smile, genuine kindness and his amazing friendly disposition!…still hard to wrap my head around the fact that we have lost 3 childhood friends in less then a year and a half to cancer…. The last time I saw Andy was at a friends party a couple years ago and as always…he was great company for everyone there..he even kept a lasting first impression on my spouse that night, talking military and police stuff..as he left saying ” your buddy Andy is a real solid guy”. ……..We both couldn’t believe the news of his passing….
I am thankful that my last memories of Andy were when he was his regular happy, healthy self 🙂
My sincerest and deepest condolences to all his family and friends..

I had the honour of getting to know Andy throughout much of last year. We had some fantastic times together, lots of laughs, and deep conversations. I always had hot sauce and green tea at the ready for him!!
I am truly at a loss for what to say, I’m sorry for you all, this isn’t fair. Andy was incredible, his smile, his humour… He was a joy to be around, but we all know that. Deeply sorry to hear about this. I was adivised by one of his coworkers regarding this terrible news. I went to police college with Andy back in the day. He was charismatic and hard working. We were able to connect instantly. He was one of the first to congratulate me when I stopped being a police officer 3 years ago…in a very Andy way of course:)
Rest in peace my brother!!

Dear Mr. and Mrs. McDonald, Mike
I’ve known Andy since Grade 9 when he sat down at our lunch table at North Park Secondary. Little did I know we would become good friends for so many years. I have many memories of us hanging out in your basement, trips up to Paul’s cottage and Andy staying at my apartment when I was living in downtown Toronto. We had a period of time that we didn’t speak as much with me being over here in England and recently reconnected last summer. We spoke fairly often over these last 6 months and even a few days before he passed away. He was a true friend and I’ll always remember the great times we’ve had over the years together.
I’m very sorry I could not be there in person and I wanted you to know how much I’ll miss him. Andy loved to have a few beers and I will be having one for him today.
RIP Ando! Thanks for all the great memories!
Josh
