The most important thing in Andrew’s life was his family. He fought with every fibre of his being to stay with Priya,Emily,Sophie and Maxwell. Andrew always made us, his extended family, laugh. That he should be taken so young is very hard to comprehend. He has left us with many precious memories. Rest in peace, Andrew. Love, Auntie Barbara

Priya, Emily, Sophie and Maxwell,
I’m so sorry for the sudden loss of your husband and father. He was the most dedicated father I’ve ever met and very passionate at what he does. My family and I have always prayed for Andrew and please know that although he is gone from this world, he is in a much better place.
If this provides any comfort, Andrew (a.k.a dad) shared his thoughts on these magazine articles where his photo also appears: http://www.canadianmetalworking.com/?s=andrew+wood
Andrew and his great sense of humour will stay in our hearts forever.
God bless,

My deepest sympathies to Andrew’s family. Andrew was like family at our house, too. For many years he was a best friend of my big brother, Paul. He was always exceedingly kind to me. We all loved him. He was one of the funniest people I have ever met, but his joking could not mask his deep sensitivity and staggering intelligence. I admired him very, very much. It seems to me he always lived life on his own terms and found much joy in it. He is gone far too soon, but will be remembered with great affection by all who knew him. RIP Andrew. Condolences, from all The Steadmans.

Priya, Emily , Sophie, Max and family,
For all the years i knew Andrew, I could be certain that his wit and gift for making people laugh was something extra special. It is those memories I will remember fondly.
His last words to me were about his children. I always thought of him as a good father! Parts of him will always live on in your children.
His time on Earth is gone but cherish the memories he has left behind. Keep them alive.
So very sorry for your pain and your great loss…though he isn’t suffering any longer. My sincerest condolences.

Rest in peace my dear friend. You’ve been there for me every single time I asked for your help, for your advise. You’ve been a great leader but above all you’ve been an amazing dad. Your three precious kids were always your first priority. You will continue to live through them. I will miss you dearly.

I had the absolute pleasure of working with Andrew – he was always attentive and ready to lend a helping hand. He spoke very fondly of his family, especially his kids – please accept my sincerest condolences on his passing. Meeting Andrew was one of the best things to happen to my family. He came to us as a business associate but quickly turned into an extended part of our family. He lived life to the fullest, always positive, and throwing the jokes around. He had one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. His love for his children poured through. While fighting this terrible disease his biggest concern was his children. Maxwell, Sophie and Emily you were deeply loved by your dad and he will live on through you. Priya i wish you strength in this difficult time. There will forever be a hole in our family with him gone. He will be deeply missed.

I only met Andrew once just a couple of months ago when he was between treatments. We met with Andrew at his beautiful home to discuss the implementation of his TAB Co. What impressed me most about Andrew was the fact that confronted with a life threatening illness he still felt and acted upon the belief that his life had meaning. In my own personal experience with those facing imminent death and my professional work with palliative clients in my hospice work I have observed that when many of us are diagnosed with a terminal illness we tend to throw in the towel on the basis of our lives no longer having any purpose or meaning and we just fidget until we die. This was not Andrew Wood. His courage in continuing to live a purposeful meaningful life until the end will ensure that he will live on in my memory as well as the memories of his family, his many friends and associates.
Thank you Andrew for this gift.

I’m so very sorry to hear of the passing of my old high school mate. He sure was an original.
I’d lost touch with Andrew over the years, the way so many of us do when we leave high school and the months turn into decades with ridiculous speed. It’s been years since I actually talked with him. Years since we’d actually been face to face. Life’s like that. No matter. Andrew left an indelible mark on my existence and I’m feeling thankful for the memories I have of the guy with the unending, outrageous sense of humour.
One day, in geography class, samples of old minerals and rocks were being passed around, each with a number on it and, I guess, the corresponding information was on the board up front or on handouts we’d each received. I was sitting near the front, on the right hand side, and Andrew at the very back to the left, I think. At any rate, the rock samples were making the rounds going through him first before arriving at me, with maybe a dozen other students in between. At one point, someone hands me an old, grey, well-worn eraser with a number written on it. Well, I knew exactly who did that and I turned to see Andrew craning his neck to connect with me, big grin on his face. I grinned right back and shook my head.
Andrew and I had a complimentary sort of sense of humour and we often built on jokes together. But, I felt very competitive with him on that front and would often battle him as we traded one-liners back and forth, trying to top each other. I do not believe I ever beat him at that. I know that my sense of humour – already instilled in me by my mother – was sharpened and elevated by my knowing Andrew. His tendency to embrace the absurd made me more absurd. To this day my favourite kind of humour is like that; the more ridiculous, the better. Competing with him made me better at being funny than I’d ever been, I think, and for that I am grateful to him.
Andrew and I went to see The Who at Exhibition Stadium in July of 1980. Being a 15-year-old bumpkin from Nobleton, I had little knowledge of the big city and Andrew – who’d lived in Etobicoke before his family moved north – graciously guided me through the whole adventure, reassuring the nervous kid from the sticks as I sat on a curb near a TTC station at one in the morning, desperately worried that we were stranded forever. We were not, of course, and made it out alive so that one day not so long afterward, I could help Andrew hand paint that old Chevy Impala, the one he’d riveted pieces of metal to in order to try and make it roadworthy again. Hand painted, I say, with brushes and Tremclad rust paint. Black. But only the bottom half. The top half of the car remained a faded golden colour so the big boat had a two-tone kind of thing going for it. Which, Andrew insisted, was way cool, despite my scoffing zingers.
Condolences to all. Family, friends, acquaintances. Andrew is gone too early. Far too early.
Rest in peace, Woody. No shenanigans up there, fella. (Yeah, right.)

My friend Andrew, ever since the day you convinced me to send a rubber chicken attached to my resume in response to that job ad, I knew you were a man of superior intellect, high ideals, and most of all endless good humour. While the resume stunt didn’t exactly work, ohhh how we laughed! After losing touch for a number of years, I remember reconnecting and we both asked what happened? Simultaneously, we said “I guess life happens”, and we laughed some more. Andrew, I’d like to say rest in peace, but if I know you, you will be somewhere building a house, making people laugh, watching a Queen concert on your outrageously big home theatre, or simply paddling a canoe on some serene lake, all the time keeping a close watch over your family. You will be missed my friend. Thank you for the laughs. All of them.
Dear Priya, Emily, Sophie, Maxwell, and all the family, my deepest condolences.
Laly and Joseph Kuriakose
It is very hard to find any words to comfort you at this time Priya. Our sincere condolences and prayers are with you and the family.I have seen you growing up from a small child to the mother of three beautiful children. It is heartbreaking to know that they lost their Hero. I met Andrew few times, and each time I learned something from him. Especially doing things around the house. He left a remarkable memory in my heart. May his soul rest in peace. Whatever I say may not comfort you much at this time. You have to hold on to your faith and beliefs to go forward as a strong woman. Whatever God’s plan is, we have to find comfort in knowing that Andrew lived a model life with fun and responsibility, and we have to cherish his memories and pass it on to the next generations.
May God give you lots of courage to pass through this difficult times,
Kelly Cockfield
It is with heavy heart to extend my sincerest condolences to you Priya and your children. I have thought of Andrew and his struggle every day since he first let us know of his battle.
Andrew gave me so many laughs and often I found it hard not to believe all his kidding. I will miss him dearly, he was a great friend and giving person, of himself to all around him. He was a lot like my father during his battle – strong and confident, still a sense of humour, never giving up. I felt, as Andrew did, that he’d beat it and come out stronger. I just can’t imagine what you must be going through now. Keep talking and laughing about Andrew, as he will of us. He will remain alive in us forever.

Dear Priya, Emily, Sophie, Maxwell, Wood and Chaly families,
Words can’t, and yet, are so needed to express the void left by Andrew’s passing into the eternal. We all have an “Andrew memory or story”…and all chuckle while remembering him. He was always pushing the limits…not to mention our buttons!
We shared good food, laughs, words and tears over a lifetime. We may not have seen eye to eye on a lot of things…but we can attest to our true love as lifelong friends built on a deep sense of mutual respect. You are in our hearts here and now and forever dandy Andy.
God bless you eternally…with heartfelt love, your friends forever…

Dearest Danielle and family,
I’m so sorry to hear about Andrew. I remember him fondly (and with a smile) from our high school years when he would spend most of his time watching us come and go and laughing at us. To the Wood family,
I was shocked and saddened by Andrew’s passing. My heart goes out to you, his family, and those he held dear. In time, I can only hope that the many happy memories you have had with such a good soul will fill the void in your hearts. His time on earth was regrettably far too short, and I think he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
We were friends in high school, and I had only seen him a few times since then. Andrew was, however, one of those special people that you might not see for 10 years, but when you did, there would be no awkward moments – as if there had been no lapses in time. Recalling old times, or just enjoying the present moment. He was an easy person to talk to, and making others laugh came naturally to him. Thinking about some of his antics still brings a smile to my face. The world will not be quite the same without you, Andrew. May you rest in peace.
Thambi and Mary Chaly
Our son-in-law Andrew will be greatly missed. He had a great sense of humour and, most importantly, was a wonderful husband to our daughter Priya and father to our grandchildren Emily, Sophie and Maxwell. When he was diagnosed with cancer, he did everything he could to be there as long as possible for his family. Sadly, God had greater plans for him. He fought long and hard and may he rest in eternal peace. His spirit lives on in his children. We love you Andrew and will miss you forever.

Priya, Danielle and both of your families,
Our deepest condolences to you and your families. We have been thinking of you both and please know that we are here if you need anything. Andrew was such a welcoming person. At Saturday morning tennis lessons when the kids were little, he started bringing his tennis racquet and we played on the empty court. You can imagine that he didn’t adhere to the quiet, rule oriented rules of tennis. He made me laugh all the time. I am so sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.

Dear Danielle and the Wood family,
I hold many years worth of treasured memories of time spent with the your family during our youth. Andrew was always very tolerant of us and our school age antics – enduring our endless giggling and silliness with a shake of his head (and a bit of a grimace). I’m sure that we undoubtedly drove him crazy more than a few times, especially when he was forced to listen to us while stuck in a car with two crazy tweens. He was an amazing big brother. My family and I were heartbroken to hear of his passing at such a young age. While there are no words that will ease the pain of your loss at this time, please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace Andrew.

I first met Andrew at the Veneto Tennis club where he stood taller than the rest! And from that day on I came to realize that he was indeed taller than the rest in his business knowledge and his incredible sense of humour and his love for his family. He was a giant among us showing unending courage throughout his battle. He left us far too soon but has left an indellible mark on us.

Dear Andrew,
It was just a few weeks ago when you and I were kicking back on a summers day, the kids were outside having a blast and at that moment in the company of your great intellect and wit, it seemed as if everything was ok. I mis you buddy, your cantankerous charm and musings on the irony and humour in our lives. As our families have grown up together you have always been a great role model as a Dad and someone my children have adored.
Our families will continue to grow together and we will forever share in the light and the laughter you gave us.

Dear Priya, Sophie, Emily & Maxwell,
Our interaction with Andrew was unique in that we had met him only once, for only a couple of hours or so, on the beautiful backwaters. He had left an indelible impression on all of us that afternoon with his humorous and cheerful nature. Aedan still fondly remembers the tricks Andrew taught him that afternoon.
