Passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 11, 2018. Barbara was born in 1930 at Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing. She was the fourth daughter of Adam and Margaret Forbes and is survived by her sister Betty Garven, and brother Bob Forbes. Barbara was predeceased by her husband Robert and sisters Helen and Margaret. She attended Diamond Jubilee Public School and Kapuskasing District High School. Barbara attended nursing school in Ottawa at the Ottawa Civic Hospital where she made lifelong friendships. Alumni events in Ottawa were something Barbara looked forward to and attended as long as she was able. After graduation, Barbara returned to Kapuskasing where she worked as a Registered Nurse at Sensenbrenner Hospital. There, she met and married a dashing young forester named Robert Armstrong. Barbara and Bob had three children; Catherine Petch (Brian), Joan Meleskie (Chris), and Ian Armstrong (Joanne). They were also blessed with five granddaughters; Christie, Anne, Michelle, Katie, and Margaret. Barbara loved the companionship of dogs and enjoyed time with many over the years. Throughout her life, Barbara was a hardworking, active person who gave generously to her family and her community. In particular, she gave hours to the kitchen at Collier United Church in Barrie and at a local food bank. Barbara loved to ski and tapped into her nursing skills volunteering as a member of the national ski patrol.

We are sorry to learn of Barb’s passing in this morning’s paper. As teachers, and members of the Kinsmen /Kinette Clubs in Kapuskasing, we had the privilege of knowing her and husband Bob as great parents and solid community members, to say nothing of their respective professional status at Sensenbrenner and Spruce Falls Woodlands. To her children and other surviving family members we offer our heartfelt sympathy for this profound loss.
Respectfully,
Judith & Wayne Weaver

Had the privilege of seeing Barb at our Fitness (aka Senior’s Fall Prevention) classes. She was delightful, always a big smile and an inspiration to all the “junior seniors”. Condolences to her family.
