August 22, 1944 ~ May 21, 2021
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of C. Ward Hargreaves, our beloved husband, father and poppa.
Ward is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Judy (Merrett); his daughter, Kori, son-in-law Mike Guglietti; his son, Kyle, daughter-in-law Renée Francis. He was the very proud Poppa of Tyler, Breanna, and Marcus Guglietti. He is loved by his two sisters-in-law Norma Hargreaves (Kingston, Ont.) and Sabrina Merrett (London, Ont.). Ward was loved by his many nieces and nephews. Ward was predeceased by his adoring parents Gordon and Violet (nee McCullough) Hargreaves, his loving brother Doug Hargreaves and brother-in-law Paul Merrett.
Ward was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., where he began his banking career. He moved to Bolton in 1975 to open the Toronto Dominion Bank in the Bolton Country Market where he helped to build the Bolton community to where it is today.
He will be fondly remembered for his infectious laugh, wonderful sense of humour and caring heart; he was literally a huge teddy bear.
Our hearts are broken and anyone who had the pleasure to know him would understand what a loss this is; we will be forever sad.
Private funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S., Bolton (905-857-2213) on Wednesday morning, May 26 at 11 o’clock.
Donations in Ward’s memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation
Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

I am very sorry to hear the sad news about Ward. You couldn’t meet a nicer man or a nicer family. I have fond memories of your parent volunteer help at Ellwood Memorial P.S. You were always so cheerful and supportive of all the students.

My sincere condolences to Ward’s family. I don’t know you but here’s a respectful reminiscence of Ward. I attended SCI and played basketball with him. In 1961 we represented our school in Galt Ontario with his brother Doug coaching us. When we entered the gym with Ward to play the championship game, the opposition literally gasped at our centre’s height. Nonetheless they killed us in that game. But to compensate for this humiliation, the car trip down and back was so memorable for all of our team, as it was led by Ward’s wonderful humour. It remains a trip I still recall whenever the 6O’s best music is played. He was truly a gentle giant and so respected at Sault Collegiate. One Friday night at a gym dance after a game, Ward introduced the newest dance to all the kids in the crowd, the “Twist”. He brought it North. You see, everyone of us make an impact on so many, an impact that family may never know. I wanted all of you to know he impacted my young life tremendously. I’m truly saddened for your loss. So very sorry to hear about Ward.
Though we have not kept in touch – we have thought of him so fondly when we bring up our karting experiences. His strong quiet demeanor – coupled with his dry humour still makes us smile. We were very fortunate to have known him and your family. We are truly sorry for your loss…….

Judi, Kori, Kyle. and Ward’s extended family.
It was with profound sorrow that we received the news of Ward’s sudden passing, I enjoyed so much my “little” cousin on the all too few times, due at times to distance and then to busy professional and family lives, that we were able to get together. From early years he always seemed to be my “big” cousin. This was not just due to his size, which was impressive all right, but more so to the fullness of life and laughter and just plain kind huge presence he always presented.
Although he was my younger cousin, he would grant me no seniority, give me no unearned respect, and I enjoyed his humorous digs immensely. I tried to match his wit but there was really just no matching Ward’s humor nor his kindness.
We had really hoped post covid, that we could once again see Judy and Ward, unfortunately that will now not occur. I really needed after all this social; distancing, to have some one make fun of me again, like only he could. My five kids, who all remember him, and my two sisters and cousin Priscilla Sargent all express their own sympathies through me. to you all. Peace to you my cuz, you are family, and I give you the last word, even though we may not hear you. I am sure you are laughing.
Anna Petrole
Deepest Condolences to Judy and family. I worked for Mr Hargreaves at the TD Richview Square branch for many years. It was a wonderful time.

On behalf of my wife Linda and myself, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to Judy, Kori, Kyle and their families. I have known Ward for more than 40 years. I have so many wonderful memories…the many Christmas’s and Thanksgivings we spent together….the weekly basketball games at Ellwood Public School when we were still agile enough to play…the fun we had going to the movies just to hear Ward laugh…our weekly lunch meetings where we would analyze every recent football and basketball game, as well as try and solve all the world’s problems. I loved Ward like the brother I never had. He was my best friend. Linda and I will miss him very much.
Pattie Lovett-Reid
Mr.Hargreaves as he was known to me, was my mentor, coach, manager and friend. He taught me how to be resilient, respectful, how to be tough yet kind at the same time. And so much more.
I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. He was a great man who was never confused about what mattered to him the most in the whole world -his family.
He will be missed so much and yet I know the great memories you have of him will live forever.
He has left behind a wonderful legacy.

Our sincerest condolences to Judy, Kori, Kyle, and to the whole family. He was always so friendly when he came to visit Kyle in Kingston, and would generously take some of us out shopping or to the A&W. He and Judy generously hosted me one Thanksgiving, and I learned of his interest in the U.S. Civil War, his tales of the Soo, and his pride in community and family. I know he will be missed by all who knew him.

Judy – when I read the notice of Ward’s passing, I was saddened, of course – but then I smiled. I remembered our drives together to the Toronto Civil War Roundtable many, many years ago and how much fun he made them. He was witty, smart and a lovely man. My condolences on your tremendous loss.

Susan and I were very sorry to hear of Ward’s passing. We have always been grateful to him for arranging a small personal loan for us when we were young, had no resources to speak of and were trying to get settled in Bolton. Other bankers looked only at the bottom line, but Ward looked at the people involved.
Jan and Rob Albon
Much saddened to read of the passing of Ward who we knew when living on the 6th line in Bolton many years ago now.
Our condolences to Judy
