Peacefully at Dufferin Oaks Nursing Home, Shelburne, on Thursday, November 6, 2014. Catherine Elizabeth Robinson was born on December 6, 1928 to William and Ruby Robinson on a rural family farm near the community of Marvelville. Growing up during the Great Depression taught her to be resilient, determined, and to appreciate the simplest things in life. In 1949, she boarded a train for Caledon East to teach at a one-room school. On arrival she changed her name to “Kay” and soon met the love of her life, William Gott. They married and had three children; Stanley and his wife Helen, Richard and his wife Carol, and Albert. When tragedy struck at the death of her husband, Catherine resolved to continue on and returned to teaching. Later she found happiness in her marriage to George Ford where they had two children: John and his wife Jane, Linda Ford and her husband Paul Volk. In her later years Catherine became a proud grandmother to Alister (Tina), Lisa (Grant), William (Clare), Kevin (Tammy), Sean (Stephanie), Ben, Emily, Julia, Michael, Skyler, and proud great-grandmother to Lauren and Harper. She was the oldest of 6 children: Ralph Robinson (deceased), Harold and Peggy Robinson, Orton and Gladys (deceased) Robinson, Ruth and Eddie (deceased) Lewis, Joyce (deceased) and Percy Wiggins. Loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Catherine Ford was a woman of faith who gave tirelessly to her church and community. She played the organ at Caledon East United Church for over 30 years, and was an active member of the UCW, serving as president. Her love for her family and friends was endless. She gave effortlessly and generously to those around her. Her family would like to thank the caring staff at Dufferin Oaks Nursing Home for their expert care and their kindness. Special thanks to Laura Morton.

Our sincerest condolences to Kay’s wonderful family at this very sad time. We remember the beautiful music we got to enjoy for so many years at Caledon East United. We also remember Kay’s kindness and spunk. She leaves us with many fond memories.

We got to know both Kay and George when our son, Paul met and married their lovely daughter Linda. Since then we have enjoyed their company on many occasions and always felt a warm welcome at their home. We have missed the company of George and our many discussions since he passed away and now we will miss the warmth of Kay as well. God Bless.

It was with deep sadness that I received the news of Kay’s death. She was a wonderful colleague and friend. Her laughter, music, faithfulness, compassion and practical spirit served to make kinder and brighter a sometimes sad world. Her baking always seemed to reach the thresholds of homes touched by loss before I did. Patiently she waited each year for the warmer soil of June in which to plant her garden flowers. What a show they always made! In the strong arms of memory and love she is safely held. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I have fond memories of my sister Jane’s wedding shower at Kay and George’s home many years ago now. We had a very warm welcome.
My other favorite memory is of Kay playing piano and singing with Emily, Julia and Michael. That love never dies.
My thoughts are with John, Jane and their children, Emily, Julia and Michael.
