June 12, 1913 – August 14, 2012
Dorothy passed peacefully at 99 years of age on Tuesday August 14, 2012. She lived a long, joyful life creating treasured memories with her beloved family and friends. She was born in Winnipeg, grew up in Toronto attending Jarvis Collegiate, raised her family in Etobicoke and then moved to Brantford where she lived independently until she was 91. Dorothy was ahead of her time, pursuing a career working as an analyst at IBM and later at Massey Ferguson where she met the love of her life Gord. She bravely had and raised her first child, Ross, alone as Gordie served in the Second World War. Dot and Gord enjoyed travelling, golfing, curling, square dancing, playing cards, and socializing with their many friends. Dorothy was a great role model and confidant to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed day-tripping and attending the theatre with her daughter Lynn. She passed many happy holiday hours with Ross and his family in Muskoka and Florida. Dorothy enjoyed visiting and keeping track of all her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s lives. She was a long-time volunteer at the Brantford General Hospital and a member of the Alter Guild at St Mark’s Anglican Church.
Predeceased by her husband Gordon Harding, her son Ross Harding and her daughter Lynn Dobson. Loving mother-in-law to Tom Dobson, King City and Joan Harding, Oakville. Loving grandmother to Diana Dobson and Wilf Luedke, Nanaimo; Kirk and Liz Harding, Toronto; Kristine Dobson and Greg Alexander, Ottawa; Chris and Laura Harding, Burlington; Debra Dobson and Alf Budweth, Nobleton. Proud great-grandmother to Sarah and Anna Luedke, Allison and Sean Harding, Madeline and Lauren Alexander, Dean and Kyle Harding and Olivia Budweth.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sherwood Court in Maple, Ontario who provided compassionate care during her final years.
A celebration of life for Dorothy Harding will be held in early fall. A reception will follow. Private family interment at St Jude’s Cemetery in Oakville, Ontario. For more information please contact Egan Funeral Home, Bolton (905-857-2213).
