It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elisabeth Antonia Nagy (née Lang), a woman whose life was a testament to love and light. Surrounded by her loving family, Elisabeth passed away at her home in Guelph on June 27, 2024.
Born in St. Peter, Hungary, Elisabeth spent her early years there before being sent by train to war-torn Germany and eventually immigrating to Canada with her family. Despite growing up in Hungary a few blocks from one another, it was in Canada where she met her beloved husband Josef Nagy (2017), and together, they built a family centered around resilience and enduring love.
Elisabeth’s early life experiences instilled in her a remarkable resilience that guided her through the challenges of raising a large family in a new country. Despite these obstacles, she remained a woman of remarkable warmth and compassion, who accepted and welcomed anyone and everyone she met. Known for her kindness, her humor, and her cooking and baking, Elisabeth never let anyone leave hungry. She brought joy to those around her, finding immense happiness in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, laughter and full bellies will forever endure among those fortunate enough to have known her.
Elisabeth was the loving mother and mother-in-law of Veronica and Glenn, Josef (deceased 2020) and Jayne, Andrew (deceased 2021), James and Janet, Mathew and Adele, and Susan. She was the cherished Oma of Amanda and John, Adam and Julia, Katie and Keith, Hope and Matthew, Benjamin, Melissa and Janine, Megan and Mario, Kristin and Tibor, Alex, Mathew, Bernadette, Teresa, and Thomas. Elisabeth was also the adored great-grandmother of Daniela, William, Lavender, Jackson, Isabella, Emily, Theodore, Eden, Magnolia, and Summer.
Elisabeth was the dear sister of Maria, Anna and Claude and predeceased by Stefan and Hanna, Josef and Maria, Katharina and John, Teresa and Heinz. Fondly remembered by the Nagy family, her many nieces and nephews, and friends.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 o’clock. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday morning, July 4 at 11 o’clock. Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bolton. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com
Though she has left our embrace, Elisabeth’s spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Our hearts are filled with sadness. Tante Lissi was one of a kind. She always made time for us & lovingly welcomed us into her home. Her hospitality & wonderful baking were so appreciated! We have enjoyable memories walking through the fields behind her home, laughing & telling stories. She was a wonderful person with a positive outlook on life. Tante Lissi always spoke highly of her family. You will be missed by all. RIP
Thomas and Amy Lang with Andre, Alexander and Aidan.
Tante Lisel, we love you. Eternal rest grant unto her Lord, may she rest in peace.
Such a humble, generous and beautiful woman, always putting others first.
With many fond and precious memories, we were looking forward to one more family gathering at Jame’s and Janet’s, but alas, it was not meant to be. May the good Lord Jesus in His mercy take her home to His Sacred Heart.
She was so strong… losing her beloved husband, Oncle Joe, and then her two sons, Little Joe and Andrew, and with her illness, she had much to offer up, but carried her pain and grief in the Grace of the Holy Spirit with peace.
May mother Mary, who suffers with us in the piercing of her Immaculate heart, wrap her mantle over the family and all the bereaved, and intercede on our behalf to the loving Father. that we may know His consolation.
