If anyone was the calm voice of reason in my mind, it was Eric. He was the only person I could trust for honest opinions throughout our many years together at Elementary and Secondary School; a time in our lives when everyone was afraid to be themselves. In a time when someone could be your friend one day, and your mortal enemy the next, Eric was always Eric. He had no time for ill will, no patience for deception, and no tolerance for
dishonesty.
Eric and I have had a long history, stemming back all the way to my arrival to Orangeville in the mid 90’s. In the fifteen years of my knowing Eric, was stands prominent in my mind is Eric’s calm, cool demeanour. I don’t think I had seen Eric panic once through the mind-breaking stressful years of high school, and during our many bouts of Candy-Fuelled Video Game Nights at Bryan’s house, I never saw Eric break a sweat as he would continue to beat me at game after game.
Second only to his calmness was his snappy one-liners. Being no stranger to the business of comedy, I was always impressed at how fast Eric could throw a one-liner, making an incredibly humorous observation and having witty comments on hand for whenever the need called for them. Eric could’ve had the world on his shoulders, and he’d make sure nobody knew. He was always there for me, and no doubt all of his friends; with a cool head, a sharp mind, and a grin that was pure Eric.
I remember Eric coming to see me at a Yuk Yuk’s Amateur night performance in Toronto, a memory which had slipped my mind until reminded by Roy Hancock. I remember Eric walked up to me, shook my hand, and told me it was a great show. To date, I think that’s the only time Eric had ever lied to me, or at least stretched some truth, though perhaps I was being too critical on the performances of my peers. Nothing humbled me more than seeing someone who had actually driven out from Orangeville to Toronto to see me blunder my way through a stand-up routine.
I have many stories of Eric, locked away in my mind. From having lengthy conversations varying from Pokémon to German Tactics of the Second World War, or from going to the OK Bowling and Billiard for a quick match of ten pin that usually resulted in me demanding rematches, I could always count on Eric to not just be there, but to always be honest on his opinions and to be the only who could tell me that I truly sucked at bowling.
Over the years, in no small part to my several relocations, Eric and I didn’t have as much time to hang out as we usually did. In fact, the last time I saw Eric was last year at another friend’s funeral, but this will only make my memories of Eric stand more predominantly in my mind.
I will never forget you, Eric.

Although no words can really help ease your loss, please know you are in our every thought and prayer.
I came across this poem……..
Until we Meet Again
Goodbyes are not forever,
Good byes are not the end
All goodbyes simply mean is
Until we meet with you again.
Each morning when we wake
we know that you are gone.
And no one knows the heartache
as we try to carry on.
Our hearts still ache with sadness
and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to lose you
no one will ever know.
Our thoughts are always with you,
your place no one can fill.
In life we loved you dearly;
in death we love you still.
There will always to be a heartache,
and often a silent tear.
But always a precious memory
of the days when you were here.
If tears would make a staircase,
and heartaches make a lane,
We’d walk the path to heaven and
bring you home again.
We hold you close within our hearts;
and there you will remain,
To walk with us throughout our lives
until we meet with you again.
Our family chain is broken now, and
nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.
Rest in Peace Eric

Heaven is getting top-heavy with our loved ones. Glad Eric will have chance to meet them…he’ll love them and laugh with them. Meanwhile those of us left behind miss them terribly. Time does make it easier to handle the pain of loss. Maybe we should have a big party like Eric and Vera and Uncle Charlie etc. etc. are having right now….can you imagine : ) May God’s arms around you comfort each one of you.

Aunt Robin, Uncle Roy, Melissa and Paul, I found these words…I pray they will comfort you at this time:
What if the brilliant, twinkling stars that bring the dart night sky to life are windows looking out of heaven?
And at the very moment when we’re wishing on those stars, hoping that the loved ones we have lost are happy, safe and free…
maybe they are looking at those same stars from the other side, making the same wish for us…sending us all their love.
I am wishing you the comfort of loving memories and the feeling that you’ll always be connected to one so close to your heart. xoxo
