Joanne and I were so very saddened to hear of Golda’s passing. She was a warm and wonderful woman with a great sense of humour. She and Jack were always so welcoming and friendly whenever Kyle had the guys over for movie nights when we were in high school. Joanne particularly remembers a New Years Eve party where Golda ‘hid’ shrimp and shrimp dip in what looked like nacho dip, but made up for it with her butter tarts. The Brydon house was always a welcoming home for everyone.

In everyone’s life we have a North Star, an anchor, a guiding light, an inspiration to help us be a better person – self-fulfilled and more complete. For me-that was Golda ‘Maw”
We would laugh together until we cried. She could brook my tears when they seemed unceasing. She could place me back on the path when I had lost my way. We could talk for hours and still have not said it all.
Her grasp on Local History was untenable. Oftentimes, King Archives would send me an old picture of Schomberg and want me to dig and delve into it, the history of the picture and the characters within it. Golda would often have the same picture in her collection and give me a complete rundown of the location, the times and all the characters. Every picture tells a story and Golda could sure tell an amazing story- what a wonderful mind that woman had!
The last few years have been an increasing struggle for Golda-but she never wavered, never complained. She welcomed everyone who passed through her door, no matter her circumstance.
At the same time that I am sorry to the bottom of my soul for losing ‘Maw’ in this life , I am also forever grateful and feel eternally blessed to have had her play such an important and strategic role in my life-Golda was my ‘Northern Star!’
A special friend is hard to find, hard to lose and impossible to forget.
True friends are never apart, maybe in distance but not in the heart.
