I was devastated to learn of this tragedy. Even though Greg and I have not seen each other since 2007 (I went to Switzerland in 2008 and he to the Middle East in 2009), we spoke 2-3 times per year and he remained a good friend. We spoke of business, family, golf and, of course, skiing … and loose plans for getting together in the future.
Greg was full of energy, intellect and joy in everything he did. I have lost a good friend and cannot adequately express my grief and condolences for his family. May they find strength and ultimately some peace with their grief at this awful time.
Virginia Trieloff
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. A shocking loss. I worked for Greg at Ventures Resource’s Toronto office until he left for Lafarge. He was a terrific ‘boss’ and fully supportive as I pursued my BFA part time. A great guy.
David Guptill & Hazel Carson
Our condolences go to Greg’s family, his friends and his other work colleagues. We have all suffered a great loss. Greg was not only a fine leader but he was also a great person who always showed interest and compassion towards his friends and employees and true affection towards his family. I have worked with Greg for many years. My fondest memories come from our most recent association when we worked together in Dubai earlier this year. We were able to share our reminiscences of work and play and revel in the major new challenges faced in the Middle East. Greg you will be greatly missed by us all.
John Hull
We were all terribly shocked with the news. Greg was such a strong force in life and everyone he met, even briefly was touched by him. He was a great influence in Lafarge no matter where he was, and as a Director of the RMCAO. The industry is certainly a better place because of him.
Our thoughts go out to Cindy, the boys and family.
He will be missed.
Dave & Glynis Ramsay

Our deepest condolences go to Cindy and the boys and the rest of Greg’s family. What a terrible loss to all of us. He was a great leader and most of all a great friend. His passing leaves a great hole here on earth and in our hearts. He will be forever in our memories, and although death may have taken Greg from us we will always have wonderful memories of our dear friend Greg.
Never gooddbye just until we meet again.

Greg and I worked together for almost 10 years. We met in the US, worked in Canada and traveled together to India, Dubai, Oman, Kuweit, South Africa, Qatar, Irak, France,…
Greg was not only a great leader but also a fun person to work with. He will be missed by everyone at Lafarge and I will miss a good friend.
Our deepest sympathies go to Cindy, her sons and to the family.
Michael Smith
Dear Cindy, Alex, Ryan, and Tyler,
Please accept my heartfelt sympathies. I worked with Greg at Lafarge. He was a bright, passionate, and empathetic leader. He did a good job balancing his work and personal life, and always spoke glowingly of his sons and family. The last time I saw him was this summer, at the Semihamoo Golf Course. He was on the driving range hitting balls, while Ryan, an outstanding golfer, was practicing on the chipping green, under Greg’s watchful eye. Greg was so proud of Ryan and full of gentle, loving encouragement. The interaction between father and son was a beautiful thing to watch. Greg will be greatly missed.
Jack and Ann Holley
Dear Cindy, his precious boys and Family,
We are so sad to hear the news about Greg. He was a wonderful person so full of life. A great friend and leader. A true character so whom we will miss.
Our prayers are with you.

Greg served as an inspiration to those of us lucky enough to know him. There was never a goal too high nor a better friend by your side. Greg and Cindy have been friends for over 20 years, after we met working for Cyprus in Tucson, AZ. Greg was continuously reaching for the next level of personal and professional growth and had an incredible zest for life, family and friends. My thoughts and prayers are with Cindy and the boys.
You will be sorely missed my friend but thank you for the time you spent on this earth impacting our lives.
Rick and Debbie Pucci
It is with great sadness that we send our condolences to Greg’s family and friends. I had the pleasure of working with Greg during his stay in Eastern Canada. More recently, we had an excellent conversation over lunch in Dubai. Greg’s energy and spirit will be greatly missed by all. Our prayers are with Cindy and his boys.

Dear Cindy, Tyler, Alex, Ryan, Mr. & Mrs. Sheardown and family,
It is with great sadness that I write this message of condolences at the loss of a great man. My memories of Greg, during my employ with Lafarge, where how he openly adored Cindy and chuckled with glee after any conversation with his boys that he was so proud of. I know that he truly loved his time on the slopes, and can imagine his smile as he started his run knee-deep in a blanket of white glimmering snow.
My deepest sympathy and I hope memories you cherish and the support of friends and family are a comfort to you all.
Shari Carlaw
My most heartfelt condolences to your entire family on Greg’s tragic passing. I worked with Greg during my time at Lafarge – he was a great person with a true passion for all that he did, and he’s left the world much too soon.
My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you at this most difficult time.
Dominique Calabrese
Dear Cindy. Alex, Ryan and Tyler,
Please accept my most deep felt sympathies and condolences. Greg and I worked very closely together for several years and developed not only a great working relationship but also became very good friends. Greg was one the brightest most talented person I have ever worked with. He was smart, engaging and simply a joy and inspiration to all of us around him. I will best remember him though for the tremendous help, support and companionship he provided me back in 2004 when I underwent my surgery. He was there when I most needed him.
I saw his unlimited potential develop and grow over the years and was so very proud to see him succeed both personally and professionally. He will be so sorely missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I barely knew Greg when I was working with him in Cairo’s office. He helped me to move in Dubai’s office when I needed help and he was always too nice and kind to everyone. Everyone knew about him that “Family always comes first” and we saw him doing so.
He was such a nice and lovable boss and he will never be forgotten.
My thoughts and prayers are with Cindy and the boys. Lilianne Nashaat

My condolences to Cindy, your sons and the entire family. I was fortunate enough to work with Greg at Lafarge when he was in Maryland. He always made others smile and laugh and it was a pleasure being around him. He was a great leader and people respected him. Greg was very successful with Lafarge and as he moved around and up the ladder, he never forgot where he came from or the people. Greg will be missed by many!
Peter Quail
My deepest condolences go out to Greg’s family and friends. I had the pleasure of working under Greg while he was President of Lafarge Eastern Canada. I found him to be passionate in everything that he undertook whether in or out of the work environment. Greg was truly one of the best leaders that I have ever worked with, who had a strong sense of honesty, trust and integrity.
He will be missed by all.
Christine Lafortune
Dear Michelle,
Sincere heartfelt condolences to you and the family.
Jennifer Faircloth
My deepest sympathies to all of Greg’s family. What a shocking loss. I had the honor of working with Greg when he and I were both at Lafarge in Northern Virginia. My fondest memory of him was one of laughter…an incident that occurred with our mutual boss at the time that we would laugh about every time we saw each other. Greg was an incredibly smart, talented guy who was poised to do even greater things. My heart goes out to those who were closest to him. I pray that your memories of him bring you comfort.
MICHAEL EDWARDS
Dear Mrs. Naccarato, Michelle and Family:
I am so very sorry to hear about Greg’s accident. I remember him as one of my best childhood friends and he was one of the only people that I stayed in touch with over the years. I was so proud of him and all of his accomplishments. His passing has left me deeply saddened, but my memories of him, his friendship, loyalty and good humor will always bring a smile to my face.
Please convey my sympathy to Cindy and the kids, I can’t imagine the grief they must be going through. Be well.

Dear Cindy,
I am absolutely heartbroken for you, your sons, and your extended family! Greg’s passing is a tremendous loss for everyone who knew him as he was such an amazing person!
He was so full of vim and vigor! His enthusiasm, along with his smile, was absolutely contagious!
I so enjoyed working with him and have such fond memories of our time together in the Business Development group in Herndon! (Those were such good times!)
With regard to his love for you & your sons, I distinctly recall him sharing stories about how he met you as well as the births of your sons, of which he was so very proud! A couple of memories, of many, that come to mind are that I would catch him humming or singing the catchy Blues Clues song here & there as he enjoyed sharing those moments with the boys after work when they were wee one–the sound from his office or while he walked down the hall was so joyful! I also recall him being so excited to take Alex golfing with his mini-clubs. Greg would absolutely glow with pride when talking about you & the boys! He was so extremely proud of your family and the life you had built together!
Greg touched the lives of so many people in so many positive ways. Know that his memory & spirit live on not only through your sons, but through everyone who encountered him as he will be remembered ever so fondly!
You, your sons, and extended family are all in my thoughts & prayers.
Fondly,
Larissa La Guardia Pitts

Cindy, Alex, Ryan and Tyler – Words cannot express the great sadness we felt when hearing of Greg’s passing. He was such a vibrant and talented individual, and we are lucky to have gotten to know him through his work with the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and RMC Research & Education Foundation. We’re proud to have known him as an industry leader and friend. When he spoke of his family, his love and enthusiasm came through the strongest. Please know that this loss will be felt and shared by many, many people and that you have our deepest condolences.

Cindy, Alex, Ryan and Tyler,
There are no words to express my sincere sympathies in your devastating loss. I worked under Greg during his time in Eastern Canada and have the nicest memories of him as a leader. He always had time for any employee and always greated us with his contagious smile. I know that wherever he is now, he will make a difference. I only hope in time, the overwhelming sadness you are feeling will be replaced with great memories of a wonderful person you know as a husband and dad. Sincere condonlences to you, your family and friends.

Our hearts are with you. We feel your sorrow. Greg was full of energy and great ideas. He loved all that life had to offer. He loved his family very much and will continue living through his wonderful three boys who he was very proud of.
We will always remember our great times together like Tremblant, New Years and our many great dinners and debates – Greg was a great friend and neighbour. He has left a permanent positive mark in our lives. He will be missed and always remembered with a smile.
We are always there for you,

Remembering Greg:
May 2010 was the last time I saw Greg at his Grandmother Viola Sheardown’s funeral. Greg’s eulogy in memory of his grandmother was a touching, memorable and impressive talk that still lives in my memory of a wonderful, loving and caring grandson and a “gentle” man anyone would be proud to associate with.
We, “The Proctor Family” extend our sincere sympathy to his family, friends and business associates.

Cindy, Alex, Ryan and Tyler,
I am so sorry for your loss. Our prayers our with you during this difficult time.
On a personal note, I will miss Greg very much. He was a person who made everyone around him feel better. He was an optomist, always positive and full of life. He was smart and an impressive person on so many levels. He always wanted to push the possibilites of how “big” something could be. I enjoyed this approach not only in our business relationship but also in the ‘fun’ things we did together.
Please know that we are all thinking about each of you and that we will always remember Greg with great fondness and appreciation for the positive impact he had on all of our lives.
Sean Janssen
My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you at this most difficult time.

I worked with Greg at Lafarge’s North America’s headquarters in Herndon. He was such a terrific person who was always generous with his time and advice. As I read through the messages of condolences, I was moved by the outpouring of love, respect and admiration by so many business colleagues, friends and family. He will be greatly missed.

Cindy, Alex, Ryan, Tyler & Family,
I am so sad that I have to send this note to you. What a shocking sorriful loss to you all. Greg was a wonderful, inspirational and influential person who affected each and every person he came into contact with. I had the great pleasure of working with him and can definitely say I shared in those inspirations. He always had a smile on his face and something happy or positive to say. We all missed him when he left Canada to embark on his journey overseas, but now he will be missed forever by all. As little as they are, my condolences are with you and I am so sorry for your great loss.

Cindy and family, my condolences go out to you during this very difficult time. I had the pleasure of working with Greg while he was in the Herndon and Baltimore offices. While that was many years ago, I appreciate that fact we were able to keep in touch, especially during the time he needed to leave Egypt.
I have always been impressed with Greg and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May God be with you.

Cindy,
When I reflect fondly on my years at Wharton – a time of intense, rich experience condensed into two years, you and Greg come prominently to my mind. We had a wonderful core group of married couples in Cohort D — you and Greg, the Stedmans, OBriens, and Chakrabartis, The Cohort D wives were saints to put up with all of us, especially after the Thursday pub nights. And you also had a Wharton Wildman hockey player on your hands!
Greg immensely impressed me with his transformation from first year to second year and his intense drive to get an opportunity in investment banking — a goal that he easily achieved. How did this Canadian mining engineer so quickly grasp and understand Wall St.? As you know, he was instrumental in helping several of us land our full-time jobs at Kidder Peabody and thus launching our careers. For this, I’m eternally grateful.
It breaks my heart to think of you and your kids right now. But there will be brighter days ahead for all of you.

I too worked with Greg at Lafarge and remember his spirit, vitality, infectiousness and enthusiasm with which he embraced life. Facing such a tragic loss, I wish you lots of love, strength and courage. Hold onto the memories…and allow the pain to pass.

Dear Pat and family, I was so sorry to hear about your loss of Greg. It was great to read all the wonderful things all his friends and colleagues wrote about him and certainly showed what a well rounded man, husband and Dad he had become and how well loved he was and much he will be missed by everyone. We were trying to attend the funeral but Ross and I are both working that day. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Take care. Love Ross and Colleen Page

Dearest Cindy,
Shyama and I send our deepest condolences to you and your extended family. We talked about Philly and Jersey and about how nice it was spending time with the two of you. Shyama reminded me that Greg was the person who introduced me to Garth Brooks and country music. We studied together, commuted to NYC together and shared so many good times. You and the boys are in our thoughts as are many wonderful memories with Greg. He was a good person and is already missed by so many.

So sorry for your sudden loss, my prayers and deepest sympathies go out to the entire family.
I worked with Greg when he was in the Atlantic. I only had the pleasure of meeting him three or four times in person, but he was a very engaging manager, spoke highly of his family always and had a drive to achieve with such passion, it was contagious. His famous quote among our Atlantic crew, and he is still quoted to date, “treat the business like you own it and every $100 counts.”
Greg was always smiling and always said things in a positive way.
He will be missed by many.
Sincere condonlences to you, your family and friends.

Though I’ve only known Greg since June when he recruited me to join the Dubai office, I can’t express the impact he had on me and all of us who had the pleasure to be around him. The sentiments we are all trying to convey barely scratch the surface of what we are all feeling.
I hope you can find peace in his memories and the loving gentleness Greg personified.

My dearest Cindy,
My heart is broken for you and the boys. It was such an honor to know Greg for the past 23 years I especially enjoyed all the time we all spent together this last year, going to Vancouver, and to the BBQ at Inn at Semiamoo and other outings.
Although Greg is gone from our sight, he will always live on in our hearts, and we will see him once again when the good Lord calls.
I wish I could be there for you in Ontario. You have the best friend for the last 34 years. Please know that I will be there for when
you return to Seattle. You just ask, and it will be done.
My sympathies to Greg’s parents and family as well. He will be missed deeply. May the Lord surround you with his loving care.

Darren and I were sorry to hear about the death of Greg. We hung out with him in Ballantrae until he moved up North to Alaska. Darren has been reminding everyone from Ballantrae how they used to hang out together, ride dirt bikes together, and he was the first person to jump off Geoff Kirby’s house! I guess he was a little rebel even back then. All of the friends from Ballantrae are saddened by his passing. We all remember Greg as a very nice and fun loving guy. We hadn’t seen him in quite a long time, and we would have loved to see him when he was back in Ballantrae a few years ago.
Darren is hoping to see you on Friday.
Again, we are so sorry and wish you all the best in this time of sadness.

Bill and I are devastated to hear of this tragic loss of a wonderful friend, husband and father. We are so very sad for you, your boys and Greg’s family. As you surely know, Greg was a dear dear friend of Bill’s. Over the years he has remarked often about Greg’s boundless energy, his incredible optimism and enthusiasm as well as his inspirational words, both professionally and personally. I know he looked so forward to and valued their frequent conversations, even across the miles and time zones, as they reflected on life, work, families, and those simple subjects that define and solidify friendships.
You and your family are continue to be in our thoughts and prayers and you all have our deepest sympathies as you navigate this difficult time. Your wonderful memories will hopefully provide you some small comfort and allow Greg to remain a part of your life.

Dear Cindy, Alex, Ryan, Tyler, and Greg’s Parents and Sister,
Our hearts and prayers are with you at this grievous time. The loss of Greg is heartbreaking and he will be greatly missed.
Because Cindy and Greg have lived far from us we did not meet Greg until a couple of years ago, but we have known Cindy since she was 4 years old. Our relationship with Greg has been one in which we loved him through his great love for his family. He generously opened his home to us and we opened our hearts to him. His love and devotion as a husband and father dominated his actions. He delighted in his family and marriage, giving each son encouragement, time and recognition. His ready laughter and zest for life were an important part of his person.
Cindy, we grieve with you, and will be there for you when you need us.

Please receive my heart-felt sympathy. I was lucky to work with Greg during my years at Lafarge, when he was assigned to mentor me, as part of a training programme. At the time I did not even realize how lucky I was to receive his guidance and his coaching. Greg was a brilliant individual, and so fun to be around. I can’t even begin to imagine the void he will leave. I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you.

We have so enjoyed your family living next door to us in Blaine Wa. Greg will truly be missed as we were witness to what a truly phenomenal husband and Father he was. ..not to mention a wonderfully exuberant, happy being. A pleasure to be around, can’t picture him without a smile on his face.
Our prayers are with you Cindy, and the entire Sheardown family.

As a fellow Wharton “D”, I recall vividly Greg’s enthusiasm and can do attitude towards whatever he was doing, whether schoolwork, career pursuit and of course having a good time in Philly. May these fond thoughts of Greg from so many friends help you and your family through this difficult time.

Dear Cindy and boys
I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Gregs tragic passing. I offer my heart felt condolences to you and pray to give you strength in these sad times.
Greg was a true inspiration, we worked together on the Kuwait lafarge Board and over time became friends out of work and shared a passion for golf often conducting our board meetings on the Golf course in Kuwait and Dubai.
I will miss him deeply and hope that you will take comfort in knowing he touched many people, was a positive light and a truly genuine person and someone I am proud to have called my friend.
May god bless you and give you strength

Greg had such a unique spirit that radiates energy to any one who worked with him. He had the ability to inspire and get the best out of others. Greg had been an integral part of my career development in ECAN, he kept me focused and determined in my overseas assignment in Eastern Europe.
Greg will be always remembered as a great leader, fun friend and most of all an inspiring mentor. My heart goes out to his wife and three boys for their loss, may our Lord Jesus be with you all during your time of mourning.
Greg, you are truly missed. Rest in peace my friend.

I want to send my sincere condolences to the Sheardown family, from myself and my family. While I only knew Greg through Ron, the stories and updates that he told demonstrated a great man. He packed a lot of living into 45 years, and we can be thankful for that. He will long be remembered as a wonderful person who made the most out of life. His family remains in my thoughts and prayers.

The last and clearest memory I have of Greg was when my folks and I stayed with Greg and his family in Blaine last August. Greg took Ryan on a 10k run from their house around a water tower and back. It was hard to believe Ryan made it AND that he kept up with Greg the whole way. This was how Greg was with his kids – always challenging them and enjoying their progress. With Tyler, Greg shared a love of golf, and with Alex, Greg shared a love of Alex’s academic interests. Greg was supportive and complimentary of Cindy’s strengths and talents, and it showed. No one could have asked for a better father and husband. Greg will be sorely missed. But his wide smile, enthusiasm about life, his sense of humor, and his infectious laugh will never be forgotten. Thank you Greg for being with us for such a short time. You were a short bright light, but you were a bright light indeed.

Dear Cindy,
I just heard the very sad news about Greg. I wanted to write you to share my sincere condolences for your deep loss. Greg and I were classmates at Wharton and I was fortunate to have had the opportunity of working alongside him and getting to know him during those very memorable years. From the first time I met him so many years ago, Greg was someone who always had a positive word for everyone. He was one of the kindest, most optimistic people I’ve had the privilege to know and he always brought a smile to my face whenever I saw him.
Please know that our family is thinking about you and your children during this time.
Warmly,
Theresa Menders
