I am very sorrow to hear this sad news. My sincere condolences to all of you. I considered Greg not only a client but a friend and teacher. I watched him deal with some very difficult situations where the very future of the Etobicoke facility was at stake. The wisdom and skill he demonstrated in dealing with those challenges was remarkable and taught me a great deal about how to handle adversity. He cared deeply for his members and by his leadership ensured that they and their families could enjoy a decent standard of living. It is so sad that he did not have longer to enjoy his well deserved retirement with all of you but you should take comfort from the fact that he touched the lives of thousands in so many wonderful ways.

Mary and family:
I was profoundly saddened to get news of Greg’s passing. Words cannot express the loss of a husband, father and grandfather. Let me try as a friend and co-worker. I had the privilege of working closely with Greg for 12 years prior to his retirement in 2007. He was not just a mentor but a true friend. It was Greg’s passion and his genuine concern for our membership, and for working people in general that moved me to get involved in our local. Working people have lost a true champion today. It was an honor and a privilege to have known him.
Greg will forever remain in my thoughts and prayers. My deepest condolences go out to you and the family during this very difficult time.

We are all saddened by the loss of Uncle Greg. Our prayers are with Aunt Mary, Catherine, Guiseppe, little Michael, Ray and Gregory.
During the last year Uncle Greg and my mother spoke regularly developing a deep bond with each other in sharing their thoughts and faith in God. My family was privileged to have witnessed his deep faith, peace and tranquility he received in these last few months. God touched his life in so many ways.
My memories of Uncle Greg will be how he loved to work on his cars and tend to his vegetable garden. My favourite memory will be when I was 5 years old I climbed a tree at my house and went a little too far and was afraid to come down. Uncle Greg had just pulled into the driveway and saw that I was afraid and came over right away to help me down.
Uncle Greg loved and cared for his family deeply. He will be greatly missed by all!
Glen and Julie Hamilton
God saw Greg getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around Greg and whispered “Come to Me.” With tearful eyes his family watched, and saw him pass away. Although they loved him dearly, they could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best….

To the Greco and D’Urzo Family:
Our deepest condolences to all of you during this difficult time. Greg was a man that was highly thought of by all that knew him and his legacy will live on forever in his children and grandchildren.
John Fryer,President Emeritus of NUPGE
What very sad news to hear of Greg’s passing. I first met Greg more than thirty years ago and we became fast friends at the outset. Greg’s principled belief in the rights of working people to receive a “fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work” meant we shared a similar approach to life. Greg was the consumate gentleman always well dressed.polite, respectful but absolutely firm in his beliefs and a tiger at the bargaining table on behalf of his fellow workers. He will be missed–this immigrant who contributed so much to Canada and to his fellow Canadians. May he rest in peace.
My condolences go to his wife who we met in Vancouver when Greg proudly received his Life Membership from NUPGE. And our sympathies also extend to Greg’s entire family and network of friends. As a trade unionist Greg earned our respect—“Well done Brother–you will be missed”.

My deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to you Mary, and to Catherine and the boys. Greg loved his family so much, and it showed in everything he did.
Greg was a wonderful husband, father, friend and teacher. He set the gold standard in all those areas of his life; anyone who wants to be a good person would succeed if they ended up half as good. Much of who I am, the good in me at least, can in some way be traced back to Greg. I have known and been fortunate to count Greg as a close friend and mentor for over 35 years, from some pretty wild and humble beginnings.
I, like so many, owe a debt to Greg that can never be repaid. He helped so many, in so many ways – and always in his unassuming and modest manner, deflecting credit from himself and bearing the burdens of others.
I will continue to be guided by his wisdom, his understanding and love, and his compassion. Greg will always be in my heart, in my prayers and in my thoughts – as will you all.
God blessed us when He saw fit to have Greg be part of our lives and I will always feel fortunate to have known a man such as him.

Loving , compassionate , tenacious , open hearted are only a few words that could describe Greg , always a man concerned with others and a man that always took the time to talk to you and ask if everything was ok when ever you ran into him . A man who cared. Greg as busy as he was would always walk the floor at Molson and personally wish everyone a very merry Christmas as that was the kind of person he was. God extended his hand to Greg and he took it. You will be in my thoughts and prayers always. My deepest condolences to your family and loved ones and our brothers and sisters at Molson. Ian Beveridge

Dear Mary and family:
I am deeply sadden by Greg’s death. As a staff person with NUPGE, I’ve known Greg since 1985 and have always had great respect for him, . He was a man of great principle and fairnesss.
He was respected by all those who knew him, whether it was his members to whom he was so dedicated to, the employer who was well aware of his motivation and determination to achieve fairness and justice for his members, or his colleagues on the NUPGE National Executive Board when he spoke so eloquently and convincing of the positions he took.
He truly was a decent human being. Beyond the important contribution he made for working people, I will always remember Greg for his mischevious grin, his gentle kindness and the caring and support he provided me over the years, especially during the loss of my son some seven years ago.
I hope you and your family are comforted by knowing Greg made a positive difference to the lives of many people who had the priviledge of having his friendship, support and solidarity. I count myself lucky to be one of those persons.
My deepest condolences.

Dear Catherine, Giuseppi and Michael,
We are saddened by the news of your father’s passing. We visited the website that spoke of his accomplishments, and he leaves a legacy that is golden. And now he has gone to his eternal reward.
We believe what St. Paul wrote, “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” and that we will eventually be reunited with our loved ones.
May God’s love surround you, may His Holy Spirit comfort you and may the belief in the resurrected Christ give you hope.
Love,

As another Ontario labour leader I had the privilege of working with Greg provincially and on the National Board. No one guessed about his commitment to his members or the movement and now we know his family. Greg didn’t speak often at meetings but when he did we all listened as it was spot on and to the point. It is people like Greg who make the world a better place for everyone. Thank you to the family for sharing him with us. My condolences.

Dear Mary and Family;
We very very saddened to hear of Greg’s passing. You have our deepest condolences at your loss. We are all diminished by losing Greg. Greg and I met, through business, as adversaries, but ended up as respectful friends and I value that – a lot. His dedication to ‘my members’, the Etobicoke Brewery and all of Carling O’Keefe and Molson was unquestioned and we all owe him a debt of gratitude and respect for that. He had great dreams that he worked very hard to make real. I always paid close attention when Greg said “I had a dream that…..” I knew a challenge was coming.

Dear Mary and Family
Words cannot express how saddened we are at Greg’s passing.
We hope there is some source of comfort for you in this painful time.
Greg’s superb skill in handling the day to day and long term goals of
his beloved Local 325 are well known.
What may not be quite as well known because of the great respect
he had for the confidentiality of his 325 members, was his incredible depth of compassion.
When his members struggled, when their work and home lives went off the rails, Greg was there.
When their co-workers lost patience, when their friends and family gave up on them and they thought there was no one left who cared,
Greg was there.Truly his brothers keeper.
What an amazing leader, mentor, friend and brother we had the
priveledge of knowing.
So long Greg and we hope to join you somewhere down the road for a cold beer

We have a hole in our hearts today. We have lost a friend, mentor and a hero. Greg’s members at local 325, as he referred to us, have lost a true champion for the working man. I had the honour of working with Greg as a steward and on the Union executive, he always had time to listen and never turned anybody away. I remember on one of our Union educational weeks, Greg was asked to sit in the middle of the room and we were asked to comment on Greg, you could tell there was respect and a love for Greg that filled the room. By the time we were done there wasn”t a dry eye in the place. Greg we will always love you, your legacy will live on forever. Mary and family we wish you our sincerest condolences and may God ease the pain of your loss.

It’s really dluficfit to believe you are gone. You were really kind to me and other international students. I still remember when we ran out of food in the cold winter, you took us to supermarket every two weeks. You took me to DMV so that I can take driving test. You taught me how to build a wood bed and let me stay at your home when my lease was end last summer. In the last two years. we are like a real family and I was really enjoy every minutes. Whenever we need help, you and Sue are always there. When we had dinner together before I left bloomington. You paid my bill for me. I promised you that I will get back next year to treat you back. I am really sorry that I can’t fulfill that promise. I am always dreaming that I could turn back the time and meet you again in Hilltop. I am really happy to help you water the green house if I could have another chance. Once I think about these, I am really sad.My parents were very sad too. They are very regret to hear this news and they want to express their condolence as well. You are a really nice person and I will remember you forever.
