February 5, 1926 – February 22, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Hertha Ebeling.
Hertha was born in Blockwinkel, Germany. She married Walter, the only man for her, in 1948. She was happily married to him for 59 years until his passing in 2007. Together with their children Brigitte & Joachim, they immigrated to (Montreal) Canada in 1958. After Walter’s passing, Hertha lived with her daughter & family in Nobleton, Ontario until her own passing.
Hertha had fond memories of her childhood years, with her three brothers & one sister, in the farming village of Blockwinkel. As new immigrants to Canada, Hertha & Walter worked hard to establish their family. As a result of their combined effort, they moved into their new house in Laval, QC in 1964. There they lived happily together, for 43 years, until Walter’s passing in 2007.
There were some very difficult times. During the war years, came the loss of two of her brothers and the farm. In 1966 a terrible car accident almost took her life. She fought to live and her faith helped her to survive, as it did earlier during the war.
Hertha was by nature, a farm girl. Her wants and needs were simple. She valued her marriage to Walter, her family & friends. Over the years she nurtured her children, then her grandchildren and until her passing, her great-grandchildren. She cared for others first, thinking of herself only last.
Hertha will be dearly missed by her children, Brigitte (Nick) & Joachim (Heather), grandchildren Natalie, Philip, Derek, Kurt & Ailsa, great-grandchildren Katelyn & Dorian, her nieces & nephews in Ontario & Germany, her new and long time friends, in Ontario and Montreal.
You are the woman who gave us life, cared for and cherished us. And now you may rest, for you will live forever in our hearts and souls.
