Surrounded and embraced by his loving family, on Good Friday April 10, 2009, Mr. James Herbert Jobb, finally surrendered in his long and heroic battle against cancer. The dearly beloved husband to Doris, his sweetheart and soul mate of 62 years; treasured and adored father of Brian (Elizabeth) and Catherine (Hernan); cherished grandfather of Danielle, Hayley, Emily and Jordan.
Before enjoying retirement in 1992, Mr. J. H. Jobb served the public good for over 30 years with the Toronto Transit Commission, lastly as the esteemed General Manager of Finance – Treasurer and Comptroller. He was a much admired colleague working diligently, earning the respect of those who worked for and with him.
He served his country in the army stationed at Camp Borden and it was back in 1944, while on weekend leave that he first met his wife to be, Doris Emily Kathleen Moffat.
He actively contributed to his community by serving as President of the Westway Village Ratepayers Assoc.; Board of Directors of the Hollywood Hills Condominiums; Past President of the Go Home Lake Cottage-owners Assoc.; Member of the Toronto Board of Trade; two-time President of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants; Hockey Coach for the Royal York Rangers; and others too many to mention.
In addition to his illustrious career and his active role in the community, he devoted himself to ensuring his family enjoyed life’s great pageant. His legacy will always live on as we remember his unconditional love and endless patience; his infinite wisdom; his kindness and passion for nature; his loyalty and clarity of purpose; his commitment to fairness; and his joyous sense of humour: truly a gentleman and a gentle man; never too busy to lend a helping hand.
In appreciation of the care he received from the health-care professionals, memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Humber River Regional Hospital, 200 Church Street, Weston M9N 1N8 or the Dorothy Ley Hospice, 220 Sherway Drive, Etobicoke M9C 0A7. The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Thursday afternoon 2 – 4 and evening 7 – 9 o’clock.
