November 16, 1944 – September 12, 2024
On November 16, 1944 a baby boy was born to Roy and Mae McCabe. He was named James (Jim) Alexander McCabe. Twenty (20) months later he welcomed his baby sister, Yvonne, to the McCabe family, now making it complete. His childhood was spent on the family farm on Hwy #50, south of Bolton. The family later moved to Rosemont and Beeton.
Over the years Jim became the father of David and Kyle, step-father of Leanne and Katrina and proud grandfather of Kierah, Haedyn, Nelia, Michaela and Logan. He will be greatly missed by his dear sister Yvonne and niece Rhonda.
As he was born into a farming family, Jim quickly learned the necessity of long days and hard work. He carried this value with him throughout his lifetime.
He was employed from the early ‘70s by James Dick Construction and even after he retired, he continued to work 1 or 2 days a week. He never lost his dedication to work. In fact, he worked on the Monday prior to his sudden fatal medical emergency.
He was particularly fond of John Deere tractors and spent numerous hours rebuilding one. Needless to say it was his pride and joy.
Not only was he a hard worker but he was honest, humble and a reliable, caring man. It was because of his daily, caring support that his parents’, when their health began to decline, were able to remain in their home for a longer period of time. He has been described by many as being gentle, sweet and kind with a jovial good nature and a true friend.
Jim was pretty much a homebody, never having been bitten by the wanderlust bug. However, during his last few years he did become a fan of live theatre, attending many performances.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say good-bye to Jim for now until we meet again.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Friday, September 20th at one o’clock.
Afterglow
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways
Of Happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days
I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done

I’m going to miss that familiar honk as Jimmy (One Flag) patrolled the streets of Beeton.
His stories and joking personality entertained us all at Tim’s coffee club. He will be missed.

It was with a sense of shock and sincere sadness that I learned of my cousin Jim McCabe’s sudden medical emergency and also just yesterday, of his passing, from my beautiful cousin Yvonne.
I remember fondly visits to the farm as a youngster, to see Aunt Mae, Uncle Roy and family members often at Christmas or New Years and other times too, on sunny warm days.
Over the years; there were many happy family gatherings, and inevitably, as time went on, funerals and celebrations of life also.
In the vein of celebrating Jim’s life, I’d like to say that although I hadn’t seen Jim possibly since Aunt Mae’s funeral; he always has and always will stand out over the many years that I’ve had the honour of being his and Yvonne’s first cousin, as a kind, patient and good natured man.
His unassuming kindness and caring gentlemanly manner always shone brightly right up there alongside his sense of humour, hardworking practicality and a life well lived. He didn’t seek the spotlight but no one could miss his caring and thoughtful nature and kind words.
I will never forget cousin Jim and feel blessed to be related to the wonderful McCabe and Cherry families.
Rest in Peace, Jim.
God Bless,
Cousin Heather, husband Timothy Stephens Butler and Uncle Ed.

It has been many years since I last spoke with Jim…… during the late 60`s , and early 70`s, on Friday evenings, James could be found at Fred Stewart`s garage on Queen Street, downtown Bolton. He was a regular , occupying `his space` , dispensing his wisdom .
James, RIP old buddy.

I express my deepest sympathy in this time of sorrow. The Bible gives a comforting hope of the promise that your loved one will come to live again on a beautiful paradise earth when death will be on more in John 5:28, 29 and Revelation 21:4.

I’m going to miss seeing Jim at the Beeton Tim Horton’s and watching him drive Main Street Beeton in his blue car and proudly waving a Canadian flag from the drivers side window. Jim was always kind and humble with everyone he spoke with. Rest In Peace brother and God bless you.

Every morning after dropping our kids off at school, we would head to Tim’s for coffee and every morning Jim sat in his usual seat with his buddies enjoying coffee as well. He was a sweet, kind man who would always say hello and engage in conversation with us and his laugh was unforgettable. We were so sorry to hear of his sudden passing. Our morning coffee won’t be the same, we will remember Jim every time we look at his empty seat. Our condolences to his family and friends, may he Rest in Peace.

Jim I miss you terribly. You were and are a blessing to me. I remember all that you have done for me and the places where we shared Tims together and travel around the area and how you moved out of your comfort zone for me. I was so glad that you took an interest in the live theatre with me, it was such a great experience. You are a blessing even in your memory.
