I met Jim in 1985, in Chicago, at a meeting for newly elected Board members of ISSA and we soon became good friends. In the following years Jim and I shared a lot of good times together, mainly at his cottage as well as other outdoor activities and I always looked forward to our next get together. I really respected Jim for his honesty and straight forward manner, never leaving any doubt about his position on any subject. Vivian and I had the pleasure to spend several days with Jim at his favorite place, “The Cottage” this past Labor Day. As always it was a pleasure and we share many good thougths about our experiences together.
I am very proud to call Jim “A Good Friend” and will remember him always as just that.
My condolences to his family and friends, he will be missed my many.

John and Rose Oliveira
Dear Ferris Family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Both John and I are so sorry for your loss and at the same time a loss to us as Jim was a very special friend to the Oliveira family and part of the family . We recall so many, many special moments and time in our lives with Jim that are so beautiful and to many to mention ,but what we can say is I know how much he loved John, Rose, Juliana and Sam. He was understanding, loving, giving, a hard worker who always said “without hard work you conquer nothing and believe in yourself and you conquer the world”.The love he had for his children was timeless and the stories from when he was young to now are just amazing. Jim was one that never complained no matter how difficult the road was and taught and gave us strength to move mountains. He loved and respected his heritage and proud to be a Scotsman and we were honoured to have Jim at our daughters wedding dressed in his kilt and colours of his clan. My daughter Juliana loved him and had so much respect for Jim and found him to be intelligent and full of knowledge in history and of course the waters and fishing . John learned so much from Jim that today he travels the waters of Georgian Bay with pride and knowledge and a pro at fishing that he says came from my very ,very good friend who he felt is like a brother. They both shared special times and conversations with each other. As for me I can say I loved and will always love my friend Jim who treated us like family and felt like family . To Jim’s children ……….he left a legacy of respect , honesty, love, hard worker and passion for friends which we see so much of in Shane . We are going to miss him very much and he left a void in our hearts and mind but will Never, Never be forgotten . Jamie, Tamara, Shane if there is anything that we can do for anyone of you please let us know and again our deepest sympathy and condolences . John and Rose , we love you !!!!

Dear Ferris Family, my thoughts are with you. We’re are never really prepared to loose someone so special. I knew Jim for some 15 years and really appreciated his love for the industry and the CSSA. We didn’t alway see eye to eye but had a common love for our business and many of the people in it. I will miss his visits. You can measure the value of a life in what parts of that life live on. I encourage you to hang on to your memories and know The CSSA will not forget Jimmy and his contributions.
