Dear Bert:
I was so saddened to hear of Joan Ann’s passing from one of our neighbours. It wasn’t long ago you and I chatted at the mailboxes and I had high hopes your dear wife would be with you for some time, but God seems to have his own plans. My children and I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to you and your family.

We knew that Joan Ann was not well, of course, but we are saddened at her passing.
It will not be the same next door, now that you are on your own, Bert, but our prayers are always with you.
Please feel free to call on us any time you need us, and we will of course continue to ‘meet’ across the fence.
