With his family by his side at home in Palgrave, on Saturday, January 28, 2023, Johann (Hans) Turk, passed away peacefully at the age of 78. Beloved husband of 50 years to Petra, Devoted father of Kristina and her partner Mike LeBlanc, Jessica and her husband Bryan Maiato, Cherished Opa of Kensley and Kayden Maiato.
Hans led a very fulfilled life as a drummer of “The Black Thunderbirds” and leader of a boyscouts troup in Germany. After immigrating to Canada in 1967 to learn English with intent to return to Germany, he fell in love with Canada and decided to stay.
Having worked in a variety of sales positions (Real Estate, Machine Tool, Hotel Locks) he met many people along the way, both professionally and personally, who always enjoyed his sense of humor and the conversations that would inevitably ensue. Through professional opportunities, he was able to travel abroad to several countries, always bringing back souvenirs for his girls upon his much anticipated return home.
Being extremely proud of all of his accomplishments and the continual luck he seemed to have, he was most proud of his family. He often reminisced about Jessica’s wedding and always spoke highly of his beautiful grandchildren, Kensley and Kayden.
He loved going to Kristina’s, “Trottage” as it always ended up with a dinner at Deb’s in Dunnville and he thoroughly enjoyed his “Daddy-Daughter” weekends with Kristina, hopping from winery to winery throughout Niagara Region.
Hans and Petra enjoyed many road trips throughout Ontario, particularly those heading towards northern Ontario in the fall to capture the beauty with the changing color of the leaves. A tradition was also upheld for many years to celebrate his birthday in Niagara Falls, something they both always looked forward to.
Hans was a very smart, honest and strong willed man, some may even say stubborn from time to time, who was financially savvy and provided great advice to his family which will carry forward for years to come. With luck on his side for many years, he always ensured to return the appreciation via several charities and was always very generous with his family, always willing to help out his girls.
Special thanks to all the staff at Princess Margaret, Southlake Regional Hospital, including the Stronach Cancer Centre and the in-home services provided through Home and Community Care Support Services Central West.
In lieu of flowers, Hans had requested that donations be made in his honor to Southlake Foundation, specifically to the Stronach Cancer Centre program.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Saturday, February 11 from 11 – 1 o’clock for a memorial visitation. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

I am extremely grateful to Hans for the way he accepted my daughter into his family. He has been a wonderful influence on her as his daughter Jessica and mine Jessie became the best of friends as they grew up together. Hans was a wonderful person and will be thought of often.

Sharing this excerpt from E.E. Cummings.
“…here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

My deepest condolences to all the family and friends of Hans…
My wife and I will always remember Han’s for the love and happiness he shared with us whenever we had the chance to spend time with him and his beautiful wife Petra. The conversations we shared together at family gatherings will always be remembered. Han’s made everyone feel so comfortable and loved, even if he had only met you a handful of times or for just a short moment.
I will always remember sharing a drink with Han’s at one family gathering and him sharing how much he loved his “German beer with the extra head!”. His laugh and smile were so contagious, and his love for his family and friends endless.
Love and prayers for the Turk, Leblanc and Maiato family during this difficult time.
Lynn and I will miss Han’s so much, but are so thankful for the everlasting memories he was able to share with us.
Our deepest condolences,
Brandon & Lynn
