On August 3rd 2022, Robert Edward Lynden Maslen (“Mas”, “Lindy”) in his 75th year passed away after a 6+ year battle with cancer with family by his side at Bethell Hospice in Inglewood ON. Beloved husband of Dale Maslen (nee Cunningham) cherished father of Derek Corlett (Lydia), Marc Corlett (Sue), Matt Maslen, and Darcy Maslen (Ben). Loving Grandfather to Leah, Erin, Samantha, and William. Lindy was survived by his brother John (Alf) and sister-in-law Anne, as well as many nieces and nephews, Mark (Ann), Tim (Dale), Ann (Gary), Judy (Glen), Sue, Karen (Kelly), Darlene (Lee), Karen (Ken), and Harjeet. Predeceased by his parents Alf and Lucy and by his brothers Bert and Bill and sister Dorothy (Johnston). He will be lovingly remembered by his extended family and many friends. Lynden was born and raised in Lindsay ON, the youngest of Alfred and Lucy Maslen of Elgin Street.
He attended L.C.V.I. and was active in the Salvation Army. He went on to graduate in 1970 from Queens University with a degree in chemical engineering (Sci-70!), where he met several lifelong friends. Lynden worked for Calgon Carbon Corporation as a senior sales manager until his retirement in 2012. Mas and Dale married in 1979 and began raising their family in Bolton ON. In 1991 Lynden was relocated to Pittsburgh PA where they spent four years enjoying all it had to offer and the continuous flow of family and friends visiting on weekends. In 1995 the family returned to Bolton, where Mas and Dale were able to enjoy many years of entertaining their friends and family at the house on King Street East, especially around the Christmas season which was his favourite holiday. Mas’ second home was on Pinegrove Road in Kearney ON. Purchasing the lot in 1973, Mas and his friends built a close community that continues to this day. There were so many memories and stories about the cottage on Perry Lake, there was literally a book written about all the shenanigans. Thanks to the unwavering support from his dearest friends from day one of diagnosis and the team at Stronach Regional Cancer Centre in Newmarket ON, Mas was able to enjoy extra summers in his favourite spot on the dock with a cold beverage. Lynden hoped his willingness to participate in different treatment trials for lung cancer could help with future treatment breakthroughs. Along with the time at the cottage, Mas was fortunate enough to enjoy several trips with the guys to cross off some of his bucket list items including watching his favourite football team, the Green Bay Packers play at Lambeau Field in Green Bay Wisconsin (GO PACKERS!). Mas was a music enthusiast, Maple Leafs fan, and a collector of many, many, many things.
What he will be most remembered for is a loyal friend, and loving father, husband, and brother.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street South (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Monday, August 8 from 5 – 8 p.m.
Private interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Lindsay and a Celebration of Life will be held in Lindsay at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army, Stronach Regional Cancer Centre, or Bethell Hospice would be appreciated.
Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

Sad news!
Growing up on Elgin St I was fortunate to have very, very special neighbours! The Maslen’s took me under their wing and although Lindy was a year younger than me , we became very good friends. I basically was part of their family being invited on everything they did; that included summer camps.
Even though many years have passed I frequently think about how lucky I was to have Lindy as a friend!

Mas was a very special and dear friend, and we share in your tremendous loss.
Since our dear friend’s passing, we have reminisced and we have laughed many times over, and also cried, and together we have relived so many great moments that we shared over the 55 plus years that Mas was in our lives. We count ourselves extremely lucky to have shared even his tough last few months. He will be greatly missed but the wonderful friendship and memories will never be forgotten.
In the coming days, may the comfort of friends sharing in your immense loss help heal your sorrow.

Dear Dale and Family;
We are saddened to hear of Lyden’s passing! We are hopefull that your grief and sense of loss today, will very soon turn to sweet memories of the man who blessed your lives.
We’ve only known Mas and Dale for 15 years, since we’ve moved to Pinegrove Road. He is one of the characters that we would have liked to have known in his earlier years. Mas must have been quite the guy in his day, we’re guessing; because he was so full of life, fun, and had a genuine interest in others…. good at parties, for sure! We know Mas to be a kind, gentle, true-to-his-friends, and helpful man.
Mas fought as long as he could, as well as he could; always with a smile, sense of humour, and cordial greeting. We will forever miss him and remember him on Perry Lake!

To Dale and the family, our fullest condolences on your loss.
I cannot believe that it has been 56 years! I met Mas in 1966 at Lakehead University as he was doing his “encore” year in first year engineering. He became an immediate social hit with the entire class, which may have explained the encore year. As we all left Lakehead, his persuasiveness convinced a dozen or so of us to head to Queen’s in the fall of 1967. Mas and I returned to Lakehead in the summer of 1968 as we had both missed a course and needed to write a supplemental exam. Due to our love of tennis, bridge and basically anything but studying, we both flunked the supplementals. However, for reasons still unknown, Queen’s moved us into 3rd year and, as they say, the rest was history.
Over the years, the frequency of contact varied with life unfolding and geographic moves. But the Queen’s gang had stag weekends, summer and Christmas kids events, annual euchre and crokinole tournaments so there were always chances to do so. After Mas’s diagnosis, Sarge created a June gathering that brought many of us together again and resurrected great friendships.
I missed the Green Bay game (where they lost…) but was able to join Mas and others in Dallas, Baltimore and Pittsburg. Great times, great memories.
One of the wonderful things about Mas was if you had just caught up with him after a year or so, after 20 minutes is seemed like you had just seen him yesterday. The stores and laughter flowed.
Mas loved a good debate or lobbing a controversial thought into a late night discussion. He could aggressively challenge people as long as Murray was nearby (“you’re back there, eh Mur”).
He will always be one of the great characters of our lives and we will miss him. But we will always remember his stores, his humour and his warmth. And that is what counts.
Dave and Trish Smith
Trish and I are so sorry to hear of Maz’s passing. So many great memories we have from so long ago on summer weekends and ones I have of boys weekends on Perry Lake! The world lost a great person, our sincerest condolences to Dale and the entire family!

We all lost a very dear friend. Who doesn’t have lots of fond memories of Mas? From university days, raising family, summers in Kearney. I think everyone had a special bond with him. His love of NFL and the Leafswas contagious. His love of music yielded a large collection. Music is such an uplifting experience and I was grateful that he shared it with me. Recently, his bucket list had us attending games in various US cities. I think we all wanted to share the trips with him. Going foreword, we all have favourite memories or our dear friend, that we can remember with fondness. You will be missed for sure.

My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Dear Dale, Marc & Sue, Darcy & Ben, Derek & Lydia, and Matt,
We’re so sorry for your loss. Mas was an uncle to us kids on Perry Lake, and he’ll be dearly missed. So many great memories of Mas; he had the fastest boat on the lake, always had great tunes coming from his stereo, and was up to take us for ski regardless of the time of day/night (and even down the river). We’ll miss his welcoming smile, his laughter and kindness. Mas was one of a kind. We’ll hold tight to these memories.
With love,
Marian, Gillian, Heather and Annie & Ian. xo

Dear Dale & family,
We are so sorry for your loss. We will all miss Mas’ great sense of humour and his true generosity. Growing up I learned a lot from him, such as the fun that can be had in a healthy debate between friends over a beer, and that when the music is good, you better play it loud! Mas showed us that good times are always better when shared with friends, and we count ourselves very fortunate to have shared some with him.
Love, Beth, Jeff, Henry & Alec

Dear Dale and family,
This news was very sad. Lynden had never said a word about his condition so this news came as a shock.
His good cheer and being a uniquely knowledgeable colleague and mentor will be most remembered.

Dear Dale and family:
How quickly 55 years have passed since our first meeting at LU! Unfortunately you left us too soon as our adventures in our golden years were just beginning . We caused havoc on two university campuses and have numerous tall tales to tell,! From Sunny Lake to Beresford to Greece, Italy and football weekends we continued to make memories. And through it all our friendship never faltered. 900 miles between us didn’t stop our visits or calls.
Your lasting legacy is the friends you’ve left behind and the escapades they can continue to recount!
Rest In Peace our friend! We will miss you

I knew Lindy mostly through stories told by Anne and John. From them I learned of his passion for adventure, family and friends. The loss of Lindy, I hope, will be softened by knowing that he lived life fully and has left so many to mourn him.
