In her 95th year, Margaret Jean Elliott (nee Bell) passed away on November 6, 2023. Loving wife to Bruce (deceased 2019), sister to David; sister-in-law to Don, Joan and Beulah all deceased. Marg will be missed by her sons, Ian (Penny), Scott, Craig (Mary), the two “lights of her life”, granddaughters, Laura (Matt) and Lindsay (Matt), nieces, nephews and friends.
Marg grew up in Fort Erie where her summers and Christmases were spent at the Bell Family homestead in Ailsa Craig. Marg attended Western University, graduating with a History Degree in 1950. Her favourite activities at school were playing basketball and Bridge. It was through Bridge that she met Bruce and they were married in 1953. They settled in Weston, Ontario where many long-term friendships were formed. Marg’s passion for dachshunds began with the purchase of her beloved Professor, in 1966, for $25.00, “the best money I ever spent”. An avid fan of all Toronto sports’ teams, her love of the Leafs was legendary. You dare not cheer for another team! She volunteered for decades with the Humberview Hockey Club, receiving an award for outstanding volunteer achievements. A career with the Ontario Government culminated with coworkers becoming friends.
She adored all her dachshunds; time spent at Skeleton Lake canoeing, swimming and playing Bridge; sitting down with a good book and completing the Globe & Mail’s Saturday cryptic crossword. She was a lovely lady, kind and generous, liked by all and will be greatly missed.
A special “thank you” to all who helped Marg these past few weeks especially, Nancy, Pam and Candy.
A visitation will be held at Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S., Bolton on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 p.m. Please come dressed in Maple Leaf blue. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com.
A Celebration of Life for Marg and Bruce will be held at Skeleton Lake, summer 2024.

Affectionately known as “Margyle” she was a loyal, long term, trusted and loving friend. We started as colleagues and ended as lasting friends. Her wisdom and humour were legendary. I will miss our birthday lunches and great chats. Her last words to me were “we had a special bond didn’t we?” We sure did Marg.
Enjoy your reunion with Bruce and your loving dachshunds.

My “Aunt Marg” was a wonderful Aunt for me. She created a center spot at the Skeleton Lake for all us kids to hang out, including reading the comics she bought every Saturday in the summer when she would return from “town” with the weekly groceries. Felt like she got me at any age. As an adult I found her always gracious, easy to talk with, kind and with a dry wit. It was a delight to be welcomed into her home at any time. The light in our world dimmed when she left. She will be missed.

Humberview Hockey was but one of her volunteer efforts. She spent years with Boy Scouts of Canada national executive. She played piano at the Presbyterian church once in a while. And she was a sometimes driver for me for my Globe and Mail Route. She felt strongly that folks wanted their paper to arrive earlier than I wanted to get up.
I remember the one time Grand Marnier for lunch in old Quebec City during the PeeWee tournament. And I was reminded of 1988 Olympics in Calgary when the line up was too long, so my mother sat down and slid down the ski hill on her butt.
One of a kind, she was.
