Suddenly and unexpectedly, on Sunday, December 19th, 2021 we lost a Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend who has left behind an incredible void.
Martha Preston (née Wilder) was born the second youngest of five children to George and Sarah Wilder on September 24th 1946. Growing up in Pottageville Ontario life was fun, and hard with her siblings Dolly (Gillham, deceased), Eddie, Aubrey (deceased) and Irene (Maskell) in that little white house. Helping on the family farm, she developed a lifelong love of animals, gardening and a small town charm she always retained, with a hello and smile for everyone.
Martha married the love of her life Fred Preston (deceased) and together, with her daughter Vicky, they started a family, welcoming their daughter Tanya a few years later.
Martha had an incredible sense of community. One of the ways she expressed that was through her love of the Bolton Legion. Poppy drives, fundraisers, catering weddings and funerals, Martha was always there. Her service to the Legion was a source of pride. Another was her and Fred assisting the Shriners with their Christmas fruitcake sales.
Martha loved to laugh. Her’s was unmistakable. She loved to have fun. Country music was her style, with Conway often playing in the background. Card night, with a few friends, drinks and dancing was perfect.
Her spirit was ever generous, selflessly taking care of her husband and her neighbors. Always ensuring you had a place to sleep and a warm meal, helping those in need. Always there when you needed a shoulder to lean or cry on. There was no one else like her.
She will be incredibly missed by her many friends and family, the residents of Walker Road, by Vicky Burgsma and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and especially by her daughter and granddaughter, Tanya Preston and Cordelia.
There will be a be a celebration of life service held towards the end of April when we can all be safely together to celebrate Martha’s life.
Notices will be posted closer to day.

Our sincere condolences to all of Martha’s family members. I haven’t seen Martha in many, many, years but we grew up together at Pottageville. The Wilder family had a lot off our family farm. Her dad, George, walked up our back lane every night to get a Bee Hive syrup pail filled with milk for his family. He showed up at the same time every day as we were doing the milking. I have many fond memories of Martha and the Wilder family.
