Peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Orangeville on Sunday, March 30, 2014, Mary Tavenor, Bolton, formerly Victoria Harbour, beloved wife of the late Charles Tavenor. Dear mother of Larry and his wife Mina, Rick and his wife Vivian, Charlene and John, and predeceased by Charles (Jim). Loving grandmother of Charlotte, Samantha, Andrew, Nicholas, Lisa, Effie Jolene, Michelle, Rachel and Suzie, and great-grandmother of 12 great-grandchildren.
Our mother was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. At a very young age her father – Kenneth Goss – moved the family to Sydney, Nova Scotia. This is where mom grew-up and went to school. Toward the end of the Second World War is when mom met our father – Charlie Tavenor. After the war they moved to Toronto, Ontario. Mom ran a room and board business out of our home, first on Nassau Street and then on Palmerston Gardens. Our mother was a mother to many a young apprentice who started his career studying at the Provincial Institute of Trades (later becoming George Brown College) on Nassau Street. While we lived on Nassau Street mom was instrumental in helping several families to re-establish themselves after emigrating from Europe and the UK. Mom completed her working career in customer service with the T. Eaton Company – Sheppard Avenue West warehouse. Mom joined the Eaton Choir. This gave mom the opportunity to full-fill her childhood dream to sing. Mom was very proud to be a member of this choir. Our mother loved this country. Mom was able to travel this great country from sea, to sea, to sea. We all have great memories of summers at the cottage on Georgian Bay – Robins Point Road, Victoria Harbour.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Betty Bartlett for her understanding and guidance through the final difficulties we faced. As a childhood friend, mom considered Betty to be part of our family and considered her to be a daughter.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Sunday afternoon from 12 o’clock until time of the memorial service in the chapel at 1 o’clock.
Reception to follow.
Memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, 2 Overlea Boulevard, Toronto, M4H 1P4.

All our best wishes are with you. We had planned to come to your mother’s memorial, but Myra is undergoing medical tests of her own which would make this trip to Bolton awkward.

My mother-in-law was certainly one of a kind & never failed to make me smile or laugh. I wish I could be there with my family to give hugs all around. My thoughts & prayers are with you all at this sad time. We can rejoice knowing that she has gone home to be with her Heavenly Father.

Rick, Larry and Charlene,
My condolences on the loss of your mother. I remember her very well even though its been a long time since I’ve seen her. The memories I have of the times when I was at your house when I was a teen, the time spent in the station wagon going up to your cottage, and many other moments are very always on my mind. She had a very good sense of humour and was a very lively person. She was always smiling and laughing and she always made me feel good. She was like second family to me.
I am sure she is at peace and is together with your father finally
