On Monday, March 22, 2010 in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late Gage Love. Proud and devoted mother of Gage, David, Peter and Geoff. Loved by her daughters-in-law Sandra, Ann, Patti, Melanie and Mimi; her twelve grandchildren Austin, Bryce, Melanie, Jennifer, Adrian, Charmian, Colin, Gage, Gaelan, Allie, Kate and Jesse and her nine great-grandchildren Ava, Abby, Makayla, Seth, Nathaniel, Olivia, Mason, Sadie and Evan. At every turn, Betty inspired, entertained, clothed, fed and reveled in her extended family. She kept warm loving homes in King and, for a magical time, in sunny Bermuda. We all have our own favorite Granny story. Her knitting, weaving and embroidery skills were breathtaking. Her dedication to crafts was more than just personal. She was a founder of Kingcrafts, a thriving visual arts guild in King City, and remains the Honorary President. A fierce competitor, she was an avid golfer who spent a lifetime unsuccessfully asking her husband to put away his foot wedge. And right to the end, she delighted in cribbage victories over all opponents. While in residence in Glynnwood, she also excelled at Scrabble, a game she mastered as a result of her voracious reading. Betty’s generosity of spirit extended to the charities she supported, many of which were environmental organizations her sons championed. The family extends our deep gratitude to the staff at York Central Hospital with special recognition of those in the palliative care unit. And we will never forget the remarkable Jennifer Jamieson for her devotion to our mum. Betty was romantic, surprising, creative and jazzy. A Rhapsody in Blue with flashing blue eyes, casual sweaters and slacks and the occasional dazzling blue suit. And she loved to dance. The family will welcome friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Monday, March 29 from 4 – 7 o’clock. The funeral service will be held at King City United Church, King City on Tuesday, March 30 at 2 o’clock (www.kcuc.ca). In place of flowers, a donation in her memory to West Park Health Care Centre, which she named (www.westpark.org), Pollution Probe (www.pollutionprobe.org) or The Ina Grafton Gage Home, 2 O’Connor Drive, East York M4K 2K1 (www.iggh.org) would be appreciated.
