Peacefully passed on Thursday, May 18, 2023, with family by her side at Matthews House Hospice in Alliston, at the age of 66 years. Beloved wife for 40 years of Edward Rooney. Cherished mother of Jenna (Ethan) and David. Proud “Gamma” of Lillian and Jack. Dear sister of Andrew (Jae) and Doug (Pin). Much loved by her in-laws, Michael (Nancy), Rosann (Wes), Mary (Barry), Colleen, Caroline (Ray), and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents, Barbara and Robert Shaw, and brother in-law, Louis (Audrey).
Nancy will be remembered for her strong will, love of people (evidenced by her 34 photo albums), and forever starting the dance party. Despite her immediate family calling it “101 questions”, she had a beautiful ability to connect with others and loved to listen to their life stories. Family memories in Caledon included fireworks, Dinner Club, euchre parties and her book (wine) club. Nancy was happiest spending the day by the water, camping, hiking, and golfing.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the teams at Headwaters Health – especially Ruth and Dr. B, the team at HPCT Southlake – especially Somayeah, and the teams at TGH and Matthews House.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen St. S. (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) on Thursday, June 1 from 2-4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. Memorial Service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 16066 The Gore Rd., Caledon on Friday, June 2 at 12:30 p.m. Reception will be held at The Royal Ambassador, 15430 Innis Lake Rd., Caledon on Friday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m. – Colourful attire encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nancy appreciated to Headwaters Health – Cancer Care (www.hhcfoundation.com) or Matthews House Hospice (https://matthewshh.givecloud.co/give)

Ed, David and Jenn, I just heard about Nancy from Sean. I know that words can’t really do much, for your hearts, but I do know that looking back at them, months from now, may make you smile. And when I think of Nancy Rooney, all I can imagine is her lovely face and the smile that seemed to beam across at everyone she met. Know that though I haven’t seen you in years, I shall hold you all in my heart.

Words will never capture how deeply sorry I am for your loss. Nancy was my best friend growing up (since age 5) and her spirits were bigger than any room she entered. We were always on some kind of crazy hair brain adventure that she would cook up for us. Needless to say I had the very best childhood because of Nancy ( and her fabulous family). We may have drifted apart as we built our families, but Nancy was always in my heart.
I am very sorry for your loss and I hope you are able to hold her close to your heart as I know I will.

Such a beautiful lady taken from us way to soon. I met Nancy in 1975 at McMaster University. As fate would have it her future husband Ed was my roommate the first 2 years at Mac. Over the years we stayed in touch and would get together with my wife Gail, also a Mac grad. Lots of history between us. As Nancy became ill she became an inspiration to me as she was such a fighter. I am currently on the same journey that ended Nancy’s life and she has helped me be stronger. As Ed recently said to me, “do her proud Don”. RIP Nancy and I will continue to fight hard with you in my heart.

Ed and Family,
What a wonderful tribute yesterday was. You all spoke wonderfully and Nancy’s love of life was captured perfectly so many times during the day.
You all have so many special memories as do we all. It will ensure that Nancy will continue to be a part of our lives.
Our thoughts are with you!

We are so sorry for the loss of Nancy, who was loved by so many. Our hearts go out to Ed, Jenna, David and family. The tribute to Nancy was top notch, special, emotional and so fitting for someone who made their mark in this world, in such a positive way.
Eric and I both worked with Nancy at CVL/Triathlon. My journey started early in the early 80’s and 90’s. In what was a male dominated industry, Nancy was strong and passionate about her work and truly made a difference. Very customer service oriented.
Her love of life was evident in her smile, her laugh and her genuine interest in others. We worked well together and shared some good laughs inside and outside the office.
She will always be in our hearts and I think we can learn from Nancy, based on how she lived her life, that we should seize the moment – laugh, dance, sing as much as possible. Love you Nancy. XO
