Condolences to the entire Phelan family from all of Caledon Community Services and the Exchange. Tony has been a friend and supporter while the Exchange has been a neighbor in his property. He rocked out on us a few years ago with his band in the unit next door to the Exchange while our Board of Directors was meeting. We all dropped in and enjoyed his warmth and good music! Tony was a kind supporter and a gentleman in all of his dealings with the Exchange, we wish you all the comfort of warm memories at this very difficult time.

We are so sad to hear of Tony’s passing and our thoughts are with Bernadette and the family. We have known Tony through business, for many years now and the last time we saw Tony, he pulled into our place in Prince Edward County on his motorcycle, with Bernadette.
When I heard Tony had cancer, we had many chats about diagnosis, treatment, the gambit. I was fighting breast cancer at the same time and through all of it, his humour still shone through. He was such a gentle soul and his love of life, of his family, was always at the forefront.
May Tony rest now and may his family find the beautiful moments to remember him by.

Our condolences to Bernadette, Chris, Scott & the entire Phelan clan. Tony was a good man who made the world a better place.
Tony was a good friend and lot of fun to be with, whether playing hockey, going skiing, parties and of course his involvement in music. Our ski trips to Vermont and to the Canadian Rockies in the 80’s bring back great memories. Jam sessions at the Phelan Bros shop in Bolton were a staple of many Sunday afternoons back in the day.
After moving to Vancouver in the early 90’s Tony was one of my first visitors. In 2014 we caught up with Tony and Bernadette when they were visiting Scott in Vancouver. During their visit, Tony and Bernadette rented a motorcycle to tour the Okanagan. When back in town he managed to get tickets for the Steve Winwood & Tom Petty show at Rogers Arena. Tony was always on the lookout for fun and lived life to the fullest!
It was always evident how much love he had for his family.
It’s so sad for Tony to leave us, he will be missed.

To the Phelan family.
I have many dear memories of Tony. As the little brother. A little buddy that came with us skiing. That would wrestle in the front yard on Nancy st. That shared the tasks at Phelan Bros. He was truly a kind soul. Even though I have not had close contact with him in recent years, I have crossed paths with those who have and his genuine kindness seems to be a common denominator. So sad. We should all be grateful to have shared time with him. And the Phelan family. Truly a privilege. Thank you.
Sincerely

To my beloved Phelan Family,
So many fun memories of life at the Phelan’s on the corner of Nancy & Elizabeth. Mary invented the open door concept and anyone who knew the Phelans benefitted by it. I always loved to have a Tony encounter by way of chance on one of these occasions. He was undoubtedly an absolute hipster before his time and the coolest guy I knew. Always loved his modified converse running shoes fun T’s huge smile and his cool greetings. To Bernie and family be grateful to have known such a fun, kind, and creative person … A definate treasure. Let the power of love fill your magnitude of loss and know Tony has touched the hearts of many. Much love from the McCreary Family❤

My deepest sympathy to you Julia and family.

While sharing the grief of Tony’s loss, I also share a sublime smile remembering times his orbit overlapped with mine. Most notable for me is the time we played hockey together in the Caledon Oldies League in Caledon East (where he brought in brother Howie), and in some out of town tournaments. It would surprise no one that Tony was the first in our league to win the first “Good Player-Good Guy” sportsmanship award. When we needed the right kind of guy to captain a team in the new league, Tony stepped up for us.
I don’t want to think about his recent struggles. I will be content to remember him for the kind, helpful and decent person I knew him to be.

Dear Bernadette, Chris, Scott and Family,
Sincerest condolences to you all.
As I read all the fond memories posted above, it occurs to me that in contrast to many folks, I only knew Tony a relatively short time. I started working with him in the late 2000’s, but we quickly became good buds – our mutual interest in music and sports being a common bond. In fact, mostly due to Tony’s easy going personality, we started hanging out and eventually formed our blues band, the Reckless Brothers. Of course, we did a lot of horsing around and rehearsing mostly, but we actually did end up playing a few gigs here and there. We used to do our own version of the Talking Heads “Take Me To The River”. Tony would do the vocals, and seeing him channel David Byrne is something I’ll never forget. What a hoot!
Rest in peace, my brother. I miss you already.

My heartfelt sympathies to all…Tony and I “grew up” together in the motor business, both of us working in our dad’s business. It’s hard to believe so many years have gone by since then.
In the last year or so he was a great inspiration to me as he fought his fight and was so willing to speak to me about it when I faced my diagnosis of colon cancer. From previous comments here, it’s obvious he touched a great many people and will be missed by so many. I know I will.
Paul.

I had the privilege of being one of Tony’s many friends and shared a deep connection with music. I think we made a real good rhythm section. Tony recently re-connected our old band with Larry and Dave. It was another example of how he brought joy to us , even as he was struggling. He was a very special , one of a kind guy. To the Phelan Clan: I had been thinking about Tony for the last few days and had finally sat down last night and wrote him a long e-mail letter and sent it off to his e-mail address at work just to have it bounce back to me. I thought it quite weird but decided maybe the business was no longer there as I had not talked to him in several years. I decided this afternoon to try and see if I could find something else to connect me with him and instead came upon his obituary.
This saddens me that we did not keep in touch after our initial introduction to each other over our family’s genealogy. Just the couple of times that I talked to him and then to Uncle Arthur made me feel so connected to the Phelan’s. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Our deepest and regretful sympathies go out to you all. Just got back from holidays and heard. So sorry we couldn’t attend his service/celebration of life.
Tony was a true gentleman, so kind, always smiling and ALWAYS having too much fun! I loved that. Tony did not have one “bad” cell in his spirit and that is a true testament to living a GREAT life. And who said to live a great life you have to live it long?
Tony and I went all through elementary and high school together, myself, my sister and Tony were the 3 shortest kids in grade 1 through to high school. And then I saw Tony at a party after high school and I had to look waaaaay up and I was so glad for him, he grew up! My sister and I remained still short as ever!!!???*&#@*???!!! Tony was the Gentle Giant.
God Bless you all and keep all of your happy memories close.

I remember him offering assistance to those members of my family who, a few years ago, were always
trying go get boats either into or out the water and this, of course, happened several times a day.
It’s still happening, but I think their boats are getting lighter.

To the Phelan family,
I just found this notice quite by accident, and just wanted to pass on condolences. I knew Tony casually through minor hockey and at Mayfield. I recall him looking cool in his jean jacket and longish hair. A real nice guy. I contacted him out of the blue a couple of years back to share the sad news about Dave Brun. Tony immediately reached out to that family.
I imagine he touched many throughout his life with his natural kindness. I’m sorry for your loss.

I am mortified that I found out 2 years too late. I last saw Tony about 4 years ago when I came to Bolton on a whim and yesterday, again on a whim, found out. I remember all the good times we had, many years ago; adventures and misadventures. I wish I had kept up. Tony was one of a kind. All my love to Bernadette, Chris and Scott. See you on another plane of existence, buddy.

I was just sitting here in my house under lockdown in Newcastle, Australia and took a path down memory lane. I grew up in Bolton and asked my friend about David Anthony who works at Phelan Electrics and then did a search on Tony. I use to play music with Tony for a short spell and he partied with myself and my brothers. I recall one night about 11:00 in the evening and Tony just popped up and said, “want to drive to Niagra Falls?” . I said what the hell and off we went. Tony had this beautiful brown 1972 Mustang and we roared down and back arriving back about 7 am the next day not before getting a speeding ticket for about $ 300. Thanks Tony for the great memories! RIP.

I just found out about Tony now by reading his mother’s obituary. Tony and I went through school together starting from kindergarten. My condolences to the Phelan family, Tony was a true gentleman and friend.
