JANUARY 26, 1960 – SEPTEMBER 28, 2024
It is with incredible sadness that we want to let everyone know that Pat passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 28, 2024. She was with her husband Roy and their wonderful dog Mauzzi.
Pat was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario to parents Peter & Gwen Bracalente. She was the second youngest of five and shortly after her birth the family moved to Barrie. Barrie was home for Pat and where she spent her childhood surrounded by family and extended family including her favourite people Auntie Mare and Auntie Pat. Pat remained extremely close to all her siblings throughout her life and appreciated their wonderful support and love always.
Pat started her working career with Barrie Credit Union and soon after was offered a position at Bank of Nova Scotia main branch in Barrie. After several years at Scotiabank where Pat took on key positions for the computer support of branches within the Barrie District, she departed and joined her sister Sandy in the computer industry. There she and Sandy worked at helping two fast growing companies grow into valuable entities. At the second entity Pat held the role of Comptroller but with the move of the company to Nova Scotia, Pat stuck to her Ontario roots and decided to strike out on her own in the accounting and bookkeeping field. It is here that she enjoyed building a business with clients and work that she enjoyed doing from home.
It was during her banking days in Barrie that she met Roy, who she referred to as the love of her life. Much later in August 2000 Pat & Roy moved to Nobleton and together they set up a home full of love and commitment. Soon after the move Pat accepted Roy’s marriage proposal while at the top of Panorama Mountain in BC and then in 2009 they travelled to Lake Powell, Arizona and were married in Navajo Canyon, AZ. In 2006 a new world opened up for Pat with the arrival of a Portuguese Water Dog named Kelby. This was an opportunity for Pat to express her caring nature and acute intuitiveness to create and develop a new and extensive career hobby in dog training. Pat fully applied herself as she always does and worked with Kelby first, and then later with Mauzzi, to achieve many of the highest levels of dog training and competition in Canada. Her favourite activity by far was Waterwork working through the exercises and levels that honour the historical significance of the breed. Waterwork was also an activity that brought the “whole team” together. Roy and Pat trained and worked together to compete in Canada and the US with their unique style and keen competitiveness. Both Kelby and Mauzzi rose to the top levels of competition.
Although the ribbons and medals gave Pat a lot of pride, it was actually the time spent to bring the incredible abilities out in her dogs that provided her the most satisfaction. She was keen to share her knowledge and style with anybody who would listen, and she will be remembered for all the time and effort she so generously shared with others. Every bit of sharing brought her good feelings and at her best.
Pat is survived by her loving husband and soulmate Roy (“Buck”) and Mauzzi. Immediate family she leaves behind are Mother Gwen (Chuck), brother Steven, sister Sandra, and sister Maria (Michel). Pat was predeceased by brother Jamie (2015). Nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews were all dearly loved by Pat. Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of Pat’s life will take place at a later date. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com
We thank all of you who have reached out to us by phone, email, text, and with cards to extend your condolences. Donations can be made to the Canadian Wildlife Federation or to a charity of choice.
If Pat were wanting to leave everyone with one message it would a favourite quote she often shared,
“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always”

I am heartbroken for Pat and Roy and all who knew and loved her. As I read, I realize that I there was much more I should have known about her, always giving, less telling. I will carry the ending quote with me as a memory of who she was.
“Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Be kind. Always”
Thanks for being part of our lives.

There have been very few people in this world that can change my stubborn view on something, when my mind is set. Pat with her “always saying what she meant, and meaning what she said, and it was always about something good” changed the way I looked at things on a number of issues. I will miss our little chats. One of a kind person is an understatement. Buck is in our thoughts daily and glad Mauzz is there for him and him for Mauzz. I’m sure the water is flat, there isn’t too much wind, and the water isn’t too cold. RIP Pat, in our thoughts, daily.

I’m so very sorry for your loss – I will miss training with Pat, she had great insights and was particularly adept at helping me train my “special” puppy Frank. She was also incredibly supportive while I was undergoing my own cancer journey.

My heart is broken. Pat was my first mentor and manager as I started my career. Always there to support me as I started my bookkeeping business. My condolences to Sandy and the rest of the family. She was the very best to me. RIP.

Roy and “Mauzzi”,
I am truly heart broken to hear of Pat’s passing. Pat was so kind and very understanding always. We had many great conversations about dogs and life. Her passion for the “Porti” was evident from the time she started with the breed. I wish I knew what to say at a time like this but please know my wish for comfort and peace to you as you navigate this world without Pat in it. Please accept my sincere condolences Roy.

Sincere condolences to Roy, Mauzzi and all of Pat’s dear loved ones. I first met Pat and Roy through water work and it was evident how passionate Pat was about training and that she had the potential to work to the top of the dog sport world – which she did! Pat also helped me out with bookkeeping and was so organized and diligent. I always knew I was in good hands with her.
We are immensely saddened by this news and thinking daily of Roy and Mauzzi. I am picturing Pat reunited with her beloved Kirby and sitting on the shore of a beautiful lake.
