Please accept our condolences on the passing of Mr. Smith. As children living in Bolton in the late 50’s into the 60’s we spent many hours shopping in the store. Mr. Smith would often open up the Pharmacy for my parents after hours when one of us required medicine after visiting Doctor Steins. Mr. Smith was a kind and gentle man.
Rest in Peace

As the “Leggett & Smith” store was such an iconic corner store in Bolton, so to was seeing Bob Smith around town, but also every single time you went into the “corner store”. As I reflect on my trips into the store, the shelves were packed, the treats were front and centre, and Bob was usually behind the Pharmacy counter or the front counter, with his voice as big as he was, and speaking to everyone. Becky and family – may you rejoice in the lives that he touched in family, Church, Rotary and at the “Corner Store”. Cherish the memories – I am.

Growing up in Bolton in Leggett and Smith was were you and your prescriptions filled, where you bought your Christmas gifts, found your favorite makeup and could test and buy new fuses for your TV. It didn’t matter what time of the day Bob was always there assisting you with with his congenial manner.
I remember after my Dad died Bob suggested that I encourage Mum to join the card days at the seniors center. It was a wonderful suggestion and thanks to the McCauleys she was able to proceed with the next phase of her life.
I cannot imagine how many lives he touched.
He will be missed and never forgotten.

Dear Becky; Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
We have fond memories of Bob from when we first came to Bolton over 40 years ago. He was a helpful, knowledgeable and compassionate druggist, a thoughtful and diplomatic committee member, and a hard working contributor to everything he took on. He was also a very good friend to many. Bolton will not seem the same without him. I just hope the management in heaven has been practicing their golf game: The real competition is arriving.

Dear Becky & Family,
Bob was a wonderful mentor and support when he served on the Board of Directors with Caledon Meals on Wheels. In Bob’s role as President of the Board, he encouraged and guided the agency and greatly contributed to the reputation of the organization. Even after his tenure with the organization was over, he still took an interest in how everything was going and it was always a pleasure to meet Bob and get that hug and special smile. He touched the hearts of so many people with many wonderful, lasting memories. I will personally treasurer my memories of Bob and extend my deepest sympathies.

Dear Becky,
I was invited to join Rotary in the early 80’s where I met Bob and shortly after, met you also.
During our trip to Ontario in June, our priority was to visit with you and Bob, luckily we were able to do it twice
Bob was recognized as a great Rotarian by his fellow peers in the Bolton and Palgrave Rotary families; he could not have achieved what hie did without your unselfish support.
Jan & I have fond memories of our cruises together; along with Bob’s “harem”. Becky, we know you’ll miss and so will we. Please accept our sincere sympathy at this time.

Being the daughter of Mr. Smith’s partner, Bill Maven, I feel very, very fortunate to have worked for Bob in Leggett and Smith Pharmacy for 7 summers while in school. He was a wonderful boss, taught me how to work hard and treat people with kindness and compassion but always made those long shifts enjoyable. Just as L & S was a Bolton icon, so too, was Mr. Smith. My dad was very lucky to have such an incredible partner. Bolton will miss a great community man.
My condolences to Becky and family. We will all miss him.

I had the privilege of working at Leggett and Smith Pharmacy as a teenager in high school. Bob was a great person to work for — but even more, he was a wonderful human being. He was kind, compassionate and caring. Because of Bob’s example, I learned the importance of having a strong work ethic, treating people as you would like to be treated and giving back to your community whenever possible. I also learned that any golfer worth his salt balks at a rainy day. I thank God to have been blessed by his influence in my life. He was truly, one of a kind.
