With sadness the family of Robert Wesley Ripley share news of his peaceful passing in his 91st year on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the Gibson Retirement Residence, Toronto. Born December 4, 1932 in Truemanville, Nova Scotia, Robert was the beloved husband of the late Doris (Wood) Ripley for 63 years. Devoted father of Wesley Ripley (Bev), Gordon Ripley (Sandy) and Robena Weiss (Joe). Cherished grandfather of Fiona and Stephen (Emily). Missed by great-grandchildren Jackson, James, Levi, and Luke and fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins. Dear brother of Melbourne, Albion (Joy), Mary, Sarah (Fred), Janey, Marjorie, Barbara (Bruce), Helen (David). He was predeceased by parents Allison and Weselean (Goodwin) Ripley, brothers Melvin, William, Alison, Coates, Joseph and sisters Elda and Flora.
Together with his wife Doris, they built their home in the Schomberg, Ontario area, and raised a family, producing bountiful harvests from his large garden. Robert earned his certification in plumbing and worked for Glen Hulse Plumbing in Schomberg for many years. He was always an active member in church. In retirement he became a skilled hand-quilter, piecing together so many beautiful works for family & friends and earning numerous ribbons at area Agricultural Fairs over the years. He also loved the challenge of 1000+ piece puzzles – the more difficult the puzzle, the more stubbornly he persevered until it was complete. Doris and Robert also enjoyed square dancing, most recently active members of the Newmarket Happy Hoppers, and danced in parades and events across Canada and into the U.S.
Cremation has taken place.
The family is currently planning a combined memorial for both Robert and Doris (who passed away in 2020). Further details will be communicated later.

My sincere condolences to the family. I was just trying to reach him to make arrangements to go down to see him. We have known Rob and Doris for many years. Played many a card game with them and did alot of dancing in the same clubs as them. They both are truly missed. Ailene Mabee and Cyril Hamilton.

Uncle Robert you will be missed. I think many times some of the life lessons you both took the time to teach us. From meal planning, grace at meal times, picking items out of the garden for the supper we were going to have. The time you made to take pictures at our wedding. All our cherished today and always.

Dear Family and friends: we are sad to learn of the passing of a dear man….Rob and Doris acted as “angels” when we arrived back in Canada in 1999, after our stay in Tennessee, where we were first introduced to the art of Square Dancing!!! We became members of the Happy Hoppers Square Dance Club, and are now “angels” ourselves helping new dancers! I, Carolyn. am also a quilter, and I marveled at Rob’s beautiful small neat hand stitching and his intricate patterns, as well as his skill in creating seasonal center pieces for our Happy Hopper annual Christmas Party and Spring Flings… Both Doris and Rob were gentle, kind people, whose Christian values and love of others were always evident.
They both enjoyed life and willingly sharing their talents with others, God Bless Them and their family as you treasure your memories of them…..

Dear Wesley, Gordon & Robena,
I was saddened to hear the news of your Father’s passing.
The 16th Sideroad has not been the same since he moved.
I miss seeing your Mom’s wash on the line and your Dad working in the garden.
They are both missed by those of us who still live on the 16th & knew them.
Fondly,
Evelyn

Sending sincere condolences on the loss of Doris, and Robert.
I knew them as neighbours first, having lived on the 8th Concession for many years. Then I was involved in Guiding, and knew Doris from that.
They were always friendly and smiling. I know that they are watching over each of their family members.
