February 24, 1939 – October 11, 2023
Roberto Latreti, beloved husband, father and grandfather was diagnosed at Peel Memorial Emergency with pancreatic cancer on September 22, 2023, and later that night sent to Etobicoke General Hospital. He asked to be discharged from hospital and return home. His family fulfilled his wishes and brought him home September 28, 2023. They, with minimal assistance cared for him and as he deteriorated daily, the palliative doctor filed forms to be sent to a hospice. He was transported to Bethell Hospice in Inglewood on Friday, October 6, 2023 until he passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 11:55pm.
Born in Rome, Italy, Roberto was separated from his parents when he was a baby. He was subsequently adopted and grew up in a small town. In his youth Roberto served with honour in the Italian army, where his culinary talents led to his role as a chef. In 1962, on a Sunday in July, Roberto met the love of his life, Enia. After a few years of courtship Roberto & Enia were married in December of 1965. Roberto was a serious man who loved his family dearly. He adhered to the culture and customs of his homeland, and taught his two daughters the same. He was kind, charming & always willing to lend a helping hand.
In 1971, Roberto made the life-altering decision to immigrate to Canada, seeking new opportunities and a better life for his growing family. His unwavering determination and strong work ethic led him to establish himself in his new home, where he continued to pursue his career in carpentry.
Roberto’s devotion to his family was immeasurable. He was a loving, supportive, although strict father to his two daughters, Meri & Sue. Meri is currently married to Brian, while Sue’s spouse is Steve. As a grandfather, Roberto showered his granddaughters, Erica and Jessica, with unconditional love. He cherished every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and joy. His love will forever be etched in their hearts.
