1927 – 2010
Peacefully on Wednesday June 16, 2010, with her family by her side. Roma will be sadly missed by her children, Charles (died 2002), Raine, Nicholas, Andrew, Tim and her daughters-in-law Valerie, Laura, Lisa and Jackie, her grandchildren, Jill, Christopher, Emily, Kyla, Iain, Conner, Alaina, Erin, Carter, Daniel and Hannah. Dear sister of Jacqueline Homewood. Predeceased by her parents, Richard and Lilian Burns, and siblings Ian, Jean, Richard and Catherine. Fondly remembered by her many family and friends all over the world. Born in Wimbledon England, on July 19th 1927, and trained as a pearl stringer for the renowned crown jeweller, Garrards of London. Roma immigrated to Canada with her husband and two eldest children in 1957. Many memorable years were spent, first in Toronto and Montreal, where her three youngest children were born and later in Caledon, where she was one of the “Granny’s” of Granny’s County Store. At the age of 70, Roma moved to North Vancouver, British Columbia, where she spent some of her most cherished years, before returning to Erin, Ontario, to be closer to her grandchildren.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Saturday afternoon 2 – 4 and evening 7 – 9 o’clock. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Sunday, June 20 at 2 o’clock. Followed by cremation. A reception will be held in the reception room at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. Condolences for the family may be offered at www.EganFuneralHome.com

Such a shock to learn of the passing of your loving Mom and Grandma. She will always be remembered in Caledon Village for being a partner with Mary Knight in Granny’s Country Store. It was a very sad day when that store closed down.
So happy when she came back from BC to be closer to the village so we were able to have some visits and get caught up.
Sincerest condolences to all her family and friends.

Dear Family:
Just read of the loss of your Mother/Grandmother. I remember being at “Granny’s Country Store” often in Caledon. My sister Yvonne worked there for awhile.
Andrew , I remember our times as kids, teenagers and later as adults with kids keeping us busy. Time sure does fly by, the decades pass quickly…
Your Mom always had a smile when I came to visit your home in Caledon and food was always available for us starving young teenage bodies!
She lived a long time. Hoping as her days counted down to be in paradise that she went happy and without angst and had a smile on her face as she always did. I have many fond memories as I am sure she passed many more memories on to hundreds if not thousands of people.
You may email me at specialkdc@hotmail.com or call me at 1.519.686.6735 to catch up on the past , present and future.
All the best of health and happiness for your family as you move forward into the ever changing future.

I was saddened to read of Roma’s passing. I met Roma through my mom-in-law, Cathy Pope ~ who was a dear friend. Cathy introduced me to Roma and I often visited Granny’s Country Store after settling in the Caledon hills in 1981.
My husband, Teddy, spoke fondly of the Brooksbank ‘children’ and so I felt I knew Roma’s family just a bit. I enjoyed many chats with Cathy and Roma over a cup of tea and biscuits ~ I miss those times.
Even though it has been quite some time since I’ve seen Roma, I will miss her presence in this world ~ her sense of humour and resounding laughter were good for the soul!
I am a better person for having known Roma, albeit only briefly.
God Bless you Roma and my most sincere condolences to your family.
