Dear Ron
I’m so sad you’ve gone. I so wanted to see you again before you moved on, which I knew had to happen one day but still hoped it never would. I hope you can meet up with Margaret whom I know you missed so much.
But you will be missed here where we still are: that cheeky smile, those twinkly eyes and cheery, rich unmistakeable voice. I have still got you on my answerphone, singing Happy Birthday to me over here in England! It’s lovely and came at a time I needed that thoughtful, cheering sweetness. Thank you so much and for accepting me so wholly as a member of your family right from the moment we met when I married your nephew, Nigel. You were always so kind to me.
And Dear Bob I’m thinking so much about you. You have been such an amazing son and Ron was so proud of you. Thank you for keeping us all in touch. I do hope we can still keep that contact.
I’d like to send you the very best wishes and support.
Lots and lots of Love
Sarah xx

The memories flood back of a man and his son on motorcycles together. Riding over to Brampton Cycle on a sunny spring day for a coffee and some conversation. The aroma of Ron’s pipe would fill the shop.
He was a wonderful man, I am sorry to hear of his passing.
Bob (water) please stay in touch

We are sorry to hear of the passing on of Ron, our dear neighbour & friend for 36 years. Our deepest sympathy to Bob.
We have fond memories of:
• “Make-believe” racing on our tractors while mowing the back lawn.
• Watching him work on intricate models of boats, delicate woodwork, etc.
• Chatting about plants, birds, chipmunks etc. while sitting on his front porch & deck.
• How he checked up on Kay every evening while I was out of the country.
• His continual cheerfulness in spite of many physical handicaps & failing eyesight.
• A wonderful person to have as a neighbour.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Rest in Peace Ron, with Maggie & Pete, in Heaven.
God Bless
Lionel, Kay, & Les Gidney.

Dear Bob, you can imagine how much I will miss Ron. Even though I moved away you are both always in my thoughts. The best neighbours that anyone could have. So many memories of good times together and so many stories of England, the war, Germany. He always called me Fraulein and made me laugh. How he loved his little treats and our annual BBQ. He is now with his beloved wife and son and hopefully he will say hello to Andy Rainey up there.
God Bless You,
Karla Rainey

Dear Bob, we were all so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. He was such a lovely man, the eternal optimist with the glass always half full, never half empty. He never let his physical ailments get in the way of living and he was interested in everything and people wanted to be with him. Both you and Ron were such good friends and neighbours to my parents Karla and Andy Rainey. I never worried even though I was so far away because you checked on them every single day at least twice. Ron could not walk but he always phoned. When Andy died last year you were both there for my mom and we wish we could be there for you now. You will have wonderful memories to sustain you in the hard months ahead but rest assured that Ron appreciated all you did for him.

In tribute to Ron … a gentle soul, a truly wonderful, special man, who won the hearts of everyone he met. Ron was very charming, witty, soft spoken English gentlemen. A natural at conversation, a great storyteller, who shared many a great story and boy did he live his life … a brave young man who went off to war …. a true hero. My family and I were really lucky when we moved to Caledon next door to Ron 35 years ago. The Irish and the English we were neighbours. We quickly became friends and part of each others families. We shared lots of fun times over the years, his twinkling eyes, his lovely laugh. I will miss those hugs, Ron always smelled so good, I’d tell him that after I hugged him and he would chuckle. Every St. Patricks Day for the last 35 years the phone would ring early morning and it was Ron and in his most beautiful singing voice he would sing an irish tune to me …..so special, just like him. Everyday when I smile at a stranger, I will be thinking of you my friend.
Till we meet again.
Sheila & xoxo
