With her devoted girls by her side, and with tremendous courage, dignity, love and a determined fight to hold onto life and all it’s gifts, Ruth passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 in the comfort of her cherished home.
Two weeks following her 73rd birthday, after a valiant struggle with cancer, she is now reunited with the love of her life, Charlie, whom she has dearly missed.
Loving and treasured mother to daughters, Karen Gallant and Gayle Gorman and beloved sons-in-law, John Gallant and Kevin Gorman. Ruth’s greatest joys were her family and her grandchildren. She was the adored and cherished grandma to Natalie and Blaise Gallant and Hayden Gorman. She was truly saddened that she would not continue to be a part of her beautiful grandchildren’s lives.
Eldest daughter of the late John and Margaret McEachern, Brampton. Beloved sister and friend of Ian and his wife Marilyn McEachern, Hazel-Ellen and her husband the late David Armstrong.
Ruth’s kind, giving and gentle nature will be a void in our lives. She had grace, gentleness, hospitality and friendship in one perfect package. She will remain in the hearts of all who knew her, her smile will continue to light our lives.
Ruth’s family’s deep gratitude is extended to the compassionate loving care and friendship of the Caledon VON nurses Candice, Liz, Anne and Diane and Dr. Michael Gagnon, whom together fulfilled Ruth’s wishes to stay at home.
Family and friends are invited to share their memories at Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street S. (Hwy. 50), Bolton (905-857-2213) Thursday, August 12 from 7 – 9 o’clock, Friday morning from 9:30 until time of funeral service in the chapel at 11 o’clock. Reception will follow at the funeral home. In the last 7 years since I met Ruth she became a wonderful friend to my family and I. It brings tears to my eyes every time I think of the vivacous lady I came to know and what cancer brought her to. We will miss her very much, especially as my look out person for when I go away….who is going to ltell me what my kids were up to when I was gone…. (smile)

Karen, Gayle and families,
So sorry we missed seeing you and are thinking of you at this time. You will always hold dear many wonderful memories. I loved to visit your mother with my mom. We would drop off my older sisters at piano lessons and then visit. Your parents had just built the new house and were living in the basement while the main floor was completed. I was so intrigued by this and always amazed at how beautiful you mom was with her lovely hair and polished fingernails. I know she will be missed by many.
