Passed away in her 99th year at her home in the Little Lake Retirement Residence in Barrie, Ontario during the early hours of Thursday, October 26th, 2023. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Doug, her parents George and Ethel and her brothers Arch and Bob. She is survived by her older sister Jean Ivens of Renfrew, Ontario. Sylvia also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many friends.
Sylvia was born on January 28th, 1925 on a farm on Dufferin Street in the small community of Fairbank, Ontario (now part of Toronto). She worked on the farm as well as at other various jobs and also enlisted in the Canadian Army during World War Two. She was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Fairbank and later Bolton where she and Doug spent most of their married lives. She moved to the Little Lake Retirement Residence in Barrie in 2016 where she eagerly participated in almost every activity and outing offered until her mobility was challenged by a stroke in 2021.
Family will welcome friends at the Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street South (Highway 50), Bolton, Ontario (905-857-2213) for a celebration of life on Friday afternoon, November 3rd at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bolton.

Sorry to hear of Sylvia’s passing. She was always an active lady… on the go. She had a pleasant manner and had an inquisitive nature. Sylvia had many interesting stories of her time serving our country

So sorry to read Aunt Sylvia passed away. She was married to my Dad ‘s older brother. While we didn’t see them often, I corresponded with her at Christmas time for many years. It was the returned Christmas card that came the other day that made me wonder about her health. Most of our families live in western Canada with a couple living east of Toronto. Dad spoke lovingly about his older brothers and their adventures as young lads. Our condolences to her family.
