Born 24 July 1925 in Rezekne, Latvia.
Died 23 July 2018 at Matthews House Hospice in Alliston, ON.
Predeceased by her husband, Julijs (Julius) Lachs, in 1999.
Sadly missed by her two children Edna Sears (Gordon) of Caledon, and Julius Lachs (Heather) of Everett. Loving Oma to Connor and Tyra Lachs.
Tekla lived in Albion Township and Bolton from 1968 to 2006. In 2006 she moved to Alliston, where she lived independently until 2018.
Tekla was creative, loving, independent, strong willed, sometimes silly, and always the life of the party. Unfortunately her bright light was extinguished by a stroke. Her family will forever be grateful to the wonderful staff and loving environment of Matthews House Hospice in Alliston for making her last days dignified and peaceful.
Visitation will be held at Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street South (Hwy 50), Bolton (905-857-2213), on Tuesday July 31, 2018 from 1 pm until the time of the funeral service in the chapel at 2 pm.
Immediately following the service, a celebration of Tekla’s life will be held at Glen Eagle Golf Club, 15731 Regional Road 50, Caledon.
Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to join the family prior to the visitation at 10:30 in the morning on Tuesday July 31, 2018 at York Cemetery.

When we heard the news of the passing of Tekla Lachs, we wanted to
convey our deepest condolences to her children, Edna and Julius,
and their families and friends in various parts of the world.
Then we reflected on our “Tante Tona” who was such an influential
figure in our childhoods and youth. She was larger than life –
elegant, funny, perky and quirky. She had a zest for life
and was a natural magnet with her easy laugh and sense of humor.
Tante Tona charmed us all and we appreciated her talents – sewing,
cooking, baking and telling jokes. Such a flair she had.
We are grateful for all the years she lived a full life, surrounded
by family and friends. Her passing will leave a great void,
but the remembrance of this unique woman will leave many smiles.
Her three god-daughters,

Vija Opolnieks Tracy (Daytona Beach, Florida)

Our condolences on the passing of your mother and grandmother.
The Lachs were wonderful neighbours to the Kings; the good old days on the 6th Line of Albion. “Toni” holds a special place in our hearts as she made Wanda’s wedding dress 35 years ago.
