Passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014, Terence (Terry) Michael Williams (aged 69 years) of Hockley Valley, ON and Bay Bulls, Nfld. Terry leaves with loving memories his wife of 44 years Jeanette (nee Nagle), his daughter Deidre, his son Michael (Yuko), and his much loved grandchildren Yui Clare, Naoto Patrick and Takao Timothy. Terry was predeceased by his infant son Sean and parents Bette and Mike Williams of St. John’s, Nfld. Also left to remember their brother are sisters Michelle Sullivan (Kevin), Megan Hunt-Walsh (Sonny) and sister-in-law Bernice Nagle. He will be remembered with affection by his nieces and nephews Adam, Sarah, Jessica and Rebecca Hunt, Colin and Claire Sullivan.
Terry attended St. Bonaventure’s College and Memorial University in St. John’s and Queen’s University in Kingston. He began his professional life as a 2nd Lt. in the Royal Canadian Engineers of the Canadian Army and as a professional geoscientist. After moving to Ontario he continued a successful career as a professional engineer in the mining industry and, later, in the environmental and nuclear fields for Ontario Hydro.
Throughout his life Terry was an enthusiastic and committed community member and father, volunteering his time as a navy cadet instructor, Boy Scouts leader, member of the Rotary Club International and in the Catholic Church. An avid outdoorsman, Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and community efforts to return blue birds to southern Ontario. His love of creating with his own hands is evidenced by his years as the operator of a traditional-style maple syrup sugar bush in Elliot Lake, the lovely home he almost single-handedly built in the Hockley Valley, his handcrafted Newfoundland dories and his ever-bountiful garden. A patriotic Newfoundlander, Terry carried a love of the music and culture of his home to the mainland and learned to play the Bodhran as a retirement project. He was happiest when he returned every summer to jig cod in his Boston Whaler surrounded by friends in Bay Bulls harbour.
Above all else he was a devoted husband, father and a very, very proud grandfather.
The family will receive their friends at the Egan Funeral Home Baxter & Giles Chapel, 273 Broadway, Orangeville (519-941-2630) Friday afternoon 2 – 4 and evening 7 – 9 o’clock. Memorial Mass will be held in St. James Colgan, 2118 Adjala-Tecumseth Townline, Colgan on Saturday morning, January 18 at 11:30 a.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 202 – 2227 South Millway, Mississauga L5L 3R6 (www.cancer.ca) or the charity of your choice. So sorry to hear of Terry’s sudden passing. As a child, I remember visiting his house and was always fasinated by his model train set in the basement of his Water St. home. We were so delighted to see him again a couple of years ago at Aunt Betty’s birthday party in Brigus. Always a soft spoken gentleman like his dad. Rest in peace Terry and sincerest condolences to his family.

Terry was one of those special people. I remember when Ontario Hydro asked me who to hire between Terry and two other more experienced individuals, I didn’ t hesitate recommending him. It was the best decision. From the first time we worked together in 1975 as young guns at Kidd Creek Mines to offering his home and teaching me how to Jig during our daughters wedding in Newfoundland, Terry was a professional, a loving man and a great friend. We are blessed to have been able to share moments in time. Our hearts go out to Jeanette, Deidre, Michael and all those closest to Terry.

On behalf of the Southern Ontario Dulcimer Association (SODA), please accept our heartfelt condolences. Terry was a member of our group who was passionate about music, especially the Celtic tunes that we played. He brought his Bodhran, and played when he could. He told stories and sang some tunes from his repertoire. He opened up his home in Hockley Valley for our meetings and always had a pot of soup cooking ready for a meal. His love of Celtic music and for the work and talents of our group, motivated him to coordinate a Celtic Festival at the Alton Mill. He brought together our group, professional musicians, dancers, and artisans for a full day of fun. Terry will always be in our hearts, thoughts, and music.

So so sorry to learn of Terry’s untimely passing. Being the “baby” of Dick’s crowd, I don’t have many memories but upon meeting him a couple of times in the last few years, I am sure his character matched his mild and kind demeanor. Take care of yourselves in the coming weeks and months as I am sure he would want you to. It is only at times like this that I realize how quickly time is passing us by.
God Bless and sending lots of hugs and prayers your way.
Cousin Maureen, husband Clayton and family.

Jeanette, Michael, Deidre and Family, Mic and Megan,
To all the family, I was so sorry to learn of the passing of Terry. I have a picture displayed in my home of my father, Terry (Murphy), holding my cousin, Terry (Williams), as a very young toddler. It was a keepsake that my Aunt Bette gave me a few years ago and it always meant a lot to me. It brought me pleaure to look at it and see the link between my family and yours with uncle and nephew close together. I am sad to see that another dear relative has passed on. I enjoyed talking to Terry in the summer of 2008 when visiting Newfoundland as he explained the origins of the name, Terry, in our family and why my grandmother had chosen this name. My deepest condolences to all the family at this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Glenda and Normand, Nicolas and Jeremy.

We were saddened at the passing of Terry. We will always have fond memories of Terry and his family opening his beautiful house for the dulcimers. I enjoyed playing my violin along with Terry as he drummed his bodrum , trying to keep us all in time. His great stories of the mummers kept everyone enthralled and also the wonderful soup that they made for everyone was memorable. He was a friendly soul who spoke so lovingly of his daughter.I am sure that we all enjoyed playing in his Celtic show . He did a great job with it. Terry , we certainly will miss you.
