It is with profound sadness that the family of Vendla Castator announces her peaceful passing surrounded by family on April 16, 2023, in her 95th year. Ven is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Ray Castator. She will be missed by her children Cathy, Garry (Daisi), and Norm (Wendy). Ven was also the loving and proud grandmother of Justin, Amy, Tara, Alex, Taylor, and Ryan. Her surviving sibling Ann Wood (Wayne), brother-in-law Bill Castator, sister-in-law Carol Aitchison, many nieces, nephews, and family friends will forever remember her as a wonderfully positive influence on their lives. Ven was born on October 30, 1928, to Norman and Mabel Aitchison of Woodbridge, Ontario. Her selfless approach to life started early. After her mother’s passing, she supported her father in caring for her siblings as a young teenager. Ven was known for her work ethic, as well as her nurturing and caring personality. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who always put the needs of others before her own. Ven enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether it was tending to her gardens, cutting the grass on the lawn tractor, or watching the birds. She had a special fondness for Cardinals, and her backyard was always filled with bird feeders that attracted a variety of winged visitors. She was also a late-blossoming golfer and enjoyed playing many rounds with her sisters and close friends.
In accordance with her wishes, in place of a funeral service, there will be a celebration of life to be arranged at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lions Foundation of Dog Guides, Nobleton United Church or King City Food Bank (ktfb.ca).

My condolences Cathy, Garry, Norm and families. I spent many a weekend at your mom and dad’s home in Woodbridge and Kleinburg in my pre-teens. I can reflect on Aunt Ven’s quick wit, family values and patience as well as the odd rant.

Dear Cathy, Garry, Norm and Families,
It is with great sadness that we learned of Ven’s passing. We have many warm memories of both your Mom and Dad, as they purchased our farm on the 10th concession many years ago. At curling banquets over the years, lots of good times were shared with both Ven and Ray. We remember your mom, who was always so kind, gracious and thoughtful, whenever we had occasion to visit. We send our sincere condolences.

Cathy, Garry and Norm,
I enjoyed singing near Vendla at Nobleton United Church, as she had a beautiful singing voice. I visited Vendla when I was delivering church newsletters when Ray was still alive. When Cathy moved back to Nobleton to be with her Mom, I occasionally visited them and always enjoyed our chats, and saw the bird feeders that Vendla enjoyed. I recall driving Vendla to a medical appointment, and although she was in pain, she was still cheerful and fun. Later when Cathy and Vendla moved to Sorrento Retirement Residences in Bolton, I visited again and enjoyed seeing her pictures and momentoes in her living room. I know that she missed her home on the 10th. I am sad that she is gone, but take some comfort knowing that she was ready. My condolences to you. I have attached a photo taken May 2021 for our Church photo-newsletter.

Norm, Garry & Cathy:
My deepest condolences on the loss of your mother.
I remember them so well from the time in Kleinburg when we as kids went to school together to the time when they moved to the Farm on the 10th just north of us. I last visited with them at their house they retired in at the corner of the 10th and King and had a brew with Ray and a very long chat with both. Always looked forward to the Nobleton Car Draw as it was are great time to catch up with all and I always new Ray and Ven would be there. Ray was a Charter member of the Lions Club of Nobleton and a great contributor to the draw.

Our condolences to Cathy, Garry, and Norm. Bill and I had a friendship of 80 years with Ray and Ven. We shared some “interesting” memories with them, including an incident with a train and a golf cart — the golf cart didn’t survive! I will miss my phone chats with Ven.
