Dear Phylis, I was just asking about you and Waldo when I met a friend for lunch last week. She hadn’t heard ‘hide nor tail’ about you and your family. This news saddens me of course, but when I think of Waldo, I smile. I remember when Tom and I put the pieces together and figured out you and Waldo were married! You’ll feel lost without him but know that he is still watching and there to help you through his loss. His faith was strong and his commitment to community was loud and clear. Please feel free to connect again when the time is right…. Tom and I are living in Burlington now with our family and closer to my parents. Thinking of you……

Waldo was a valued inaugural member of our volunteer Committee for many years. He was always available to offer support in the form of contact referrals, book-keeping and banking, and attending job fairs across the province…and we could count on him to enliven our meetings with his tales and witty remarks!!
Waldo has set the bar very high for the many committed volunteers in our community and beyond!

I will always remember Waldo as the consummate gentleman, considerate of others, thoughtful, and ever capable. My association with him goes back to his days as Campus Manager at the Orangeville Campus of Georgian College, and later, as Executive Director of The Greater Dufferin Chamber of Commerce, as well as in my days in Politics in Mono and Dufferin. I enjoyed our meetings over coffee after he and Phylis moved to Toronto. Waldo was always there for me, and I for him. I will truly miss him.

My father loved this game. I will miss watching games with him for sure. Maybe one of the reasons he liked it so much was that it resembled life so well. When you think a fastball is coming, you gotta be ready to hit the curve. Indeed. ….And they’ll walk out to the bleachers, and sit in shirt-sleeves on a perfect afternoon. They’ll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they’ll watch the game, and it’ll be as if they’d dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick, they’ll have to brush them away from their faces. The one constant through all the years, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It’s been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game, is a part of our past. It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again. Thank you, Dad. I will love you always.
Joe Andrews
