We are saddened to hear of Willa’s death. Willa and I were playmates, first cousins, and we grew up together. On many occasions Willa got a ride with the mailman to come up the road to play with me. She always had a good disposition, and a cherry voice. She was always good company, and kept me up on community news. She will be sorely missed. I am grateful for her friendship. Please accept our love and condolences. She is in our prayers. Sincerely,
Mary Jo (Armstrong) Les and Dan Will

I have so many memories of this lovely lady with the wonderful smile. I considered her as a mentor growing up. When i started the teaching profession, I was always proud to say, “I know the lady who gets every child in Peel County to school on time. Willa was a legend when it came to organizing the school bus stops. . What a memory!!!!
In her quiet way, she really made a difference in so many ways,
Fondly,

Jack and I are in Europe on a river cruise and are sorry to miss Willa’s funeral. We have been friends since high school and have had many good times over the years, outings with “the girls” and many games of bridge. We will miss her terribly and send our thoughts and prayers at this sad time to her family and the Mayfield Community.

My first connection with the Chinguacousy school board and Willa was in the Spring of 1965. When I applied for a principalship at Huttonville public school. I arrived at the board office (house) for an interview with Ray Underhill ( the government inspector) She was so professional and pleasant and I immediately felt good about the job. I stayed in close contact with her all during my career with Chinguacousy and later the peel school board. I moved next to Earnscliffe Public school as principal in 1969 when it opened. I was for a time in the board office and worked closely with Willa.
Willa was part of my career with Peel and I kept in touch with her even when I moved to a superintendency in the south and later to the Personal Department as the superintendent.
I enjoyed her as a strong professional and continued to talk her even when I was appointed director of education. She was a great educator.
Willa was an important part of the Boards operation and she contributed until she retired.
Sincerely

Willa was understanding and supportive of the job her bus drivers did, and we very much appreciated her for that.
Back in my days driving for Laidlaw, Willa agreed to ride on my school bus with me, to check out what we thought was an unsafe area for picking up elementary kids due to the then-ongoing new construction in Heart Lake at that time.
Someone side-swiping my still-empty school bus, with Willa on board that morning, made for an exciting trip, with Willa telling me it was the most interesting morning she’d had at work in ages. Thanks for the memories, Willa. Your bus drivers still remember you.

Willa was a member of the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario, Peel North. Although she didn’t come out to many meetings in recent years we made contact through birthday and Christmas cards. Someone would deliver her tin of cookies at Christmas time. It is always sad when we lose one of our members and offer our condolences to the family.
